Just love that dark haired girl, forensic expert...and the quick wit and humor and fast pace...

There are several television serial programs that I personally have stumbled across over the years...this is one I missed until recently.

It was, long ago; Science Fiction Theater, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits then, I guess, just memory wise, The X Files, Startrek and TNG, All in the Family, Happy Days? Friends? (The bar thing), Laugh In?, MASH, of course and Northern Exposure, a short one, "Dead Like Me", West Wing and although it was/is more soap than anything, ER and similar venues, currently, '24', and now, NCIS, never was into CIS or the Miami things...so like what did I miss and could you pick a favorite?

Hmmm...favorite...poll? Top 5?

Poll permits only 10 choices, alphabetically listed?

Another thought, writerly, ahm, humor? With the exception of '24', almost every one contains humor, some in larger doses than others, some straight comedy...but still...how often do you insert humor into your stories? And why?

Edited to add, JAG....

I've watched NCIS since it started. Abby (Forensics gal) is one of my favorites. And "David"...the Isreali gal is too. She's a relative newcomer but fast became one of my favorties. If you can catch back episodes, it's worth it!!

Damages on FX is a good one. A "whodunit" type that is different. WIth Glenn Close as one of the main characters. Worth looking into and again, this one, watch the back episodes to get caught up. You'll need it!!:D

Thank you! Yes...and fortunately there are reruns on a couple different satellite sources but it is kind of hit and miss...hate it when that happens, missing a good series...on the other hand, kinda nice to know one has more to look forward to.

A lot you list and

As far as comedies go...Scrubs (might be an acquired taste, but very well done), Earl, Two and A Half Men, Frasier...The Cobert Report :)

Firefly (scifi, no longer on, Joss Whedon production, movie 'continuation' = Serenity); Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters and Dirty Sexy Money though these three are over the top...I liked Lost for a couple/few seasons but got fed up with the gaps and repeats..

Not sure I could pick a favorite though.

I think I have tuned in and out of, 'Scrubs', and 'House', somehow, hospital humor doesn't make it with me, and yes, a lot left out, not as many as in my small attempt to list actors and actresses some time back, a bit curious as to what Litsters choose to watch...

I adore NCIS. Mark Harmon has a very sexy smile. I'm also partial to the show House. Dr. House's personality is wonderfully portrayed and very seldom compromised.

USA Network usually airs these two shows back to back each evening. They're all re-runs, but generally they space them out fairly well.

I just found NCIS a few weeks ago and have been watching the rerund on the USAchannel. there run three back to back. I wish I had knowen of this show long before now. maybe they will come out with the whole thing on DVD soon.

Oh and Abby ROCKS she was what cought my eye frist to get me to watch the show.

Redpaint...Yup...same with me, sassy little shit she is...Watched another episode of NCIS just tonight and noticed, Donald P. Bellisario and I recall seeing his name on many of the programs I enjoy.

Did a little google:

Writer:
NCIS
JAG
First Monday
Quantum Leap
Magnum
Airwolf
Battlestar Gallactica
Kojak

Producer on most of those plus:
Quincy, M.E.
Black Sheep Squadron(loved that show)

Was just amazed at the talent of Bellisario and so impressed with his touch in these varied programs....

Quantum Leap was one of my favorites. I still catch episodes in reruns now and then. ;)

From your list, I used to watch the X Files, but the show went off the track in the last couple of seasons.

Currently, the SO and I are fans of Sanctuary, a new series on Sci-Fi. It's in hiatus at the moment, but it's slated to return soon. The show stars Amanda Tapping, of Stargate: SG-1 fame (another of my favorites that is no longer on the air). She's very convincing as a smart, sexy Brit. :D

Different strokes....I guess...tried Sanctuary and the Stargate series, just couldn't get into them, nor the Star Trek one with the female captain, just didn't work for me...ah, well...thas wat makes the world go round, they tell me:)

I didn't like Star Trek Voyager much myself. Kate Mulgrew's voice and mannerisms were irritating. I wished they would have gone with one of the original actresses to read for the role, like Patsy Kensit.

On the other side of the coin, there are quite a few Discovery and History Channel shows I avidly watch. How The Earth Was Made, and The Universe. Not to mention Jurassic Fight Club. :D

Ahhhh...Patsy Kensit, oh, my, to be young and in the game again...watching two of those also, but not Jurassic, saw one on ah, damn should have taken a note, maybe Discovery or History, about Israeli girls in boot camp, met two of those some years back while on the road...they were hitching to Mexico, tough ladies.

Lol . . . I don't doubt it. I've known a few Israeli soldiers, including some members of the Mossad. Not ones I'd like to run into in a dark alley, let me tell you.

That's what the DVDs are for. Plus, when you buy the DVD, the scriptwriters (authors) make a few cents, or at least they do with their new contract, which was negotiated after a long strike. (Score one for collective bargaining!)

On humor - what would life be without humor? I try to put humor in all my stories, although not always successfully.

I like Saving Grace with Holly Hunter. She's an alcoholic pothead detective with a stable of lovers twenty years her junior. In the opening scene of the first episode, she's naked, screwing a guy. Yeah, baby! Solve the mystery of the disappearing salami!

Dexter is interesting, with good writing and out-of-left-field characters. There is a morbid aspect, with blood and body parts galore, but it's balanced with black humor and horny women.

The young gal in Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles is hot, in a innocent, robotic sort of way. Too bad it's rated for network TV...

I too like NCIS. They seem to be having fun, especially the women. I missed the recent episode where the geeky guy was held captive in a women's prison. Perhaps that'll be the next big cable TV drama: Caged Heat in weekly installments. If that happens, I'm chucking my rabbit ears and signing up!

All five seasons of NCIS are out on DVD - try amazon.

One you didn't mention Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Loved Richard Dean Anderson as Jack O'Neill.

Also Babylon 5 - great series.

All available on DVD.

Thanks hadn't looked there yet. Just thought about it the other day while at walmart, they had everything but NCIS.

Holly Hunter, one of my favorite diminutive actresses, for 'Always', & 'Broadcast News', remains a favorite but, in my opinion, the series does not suit her talent, at least I tried, but couldn't kept seeing the younger woman.

Not that it matters...but my choices would be:

West Wing, because of the crisp, taut and taunting writing & intellectual content.

"24" for the fast paced, non stop action, twists & turns and surprises...

NCIS, again for humor, crisp writing and a theme song with a few notes straight from the Lambada, a musicians would know the name of the full note down in the theme that grabs your emotions.

"Northern Exposure", writing, humor, quick and heretical as was

"Dead Like Me" Maybe because Ellen Muth, the star, hypnotized me...

"Laugh In" A vote for an older series and because Goldie Hawn captured me...

Wanted to put JAG in there somewhere because you had to watch to see when the two main characters would finally bed down together...heh...

~~~
The original film, Stargate, with Kurt Russell, I watch again and again, but the series offsprings all seem like Matrix spin-offs to me...to each his own, I guess....we have different pleasures....but I am a bit surprised that West Wing did not do well...but it has been off for a while...
...and a theme song with a few notes straight from the Lambada, a musicians would know the name of the full note down in the theme that grabs your emotions..
Hmmm...The musical theme does have a repeating 2 note in the melody, descending from the minor third. The 2 note leaves the melody unresolved. It creates tension. It could also be considered a ninth, which, in a minor chord, does project a "noirish" vibe. In the Sade song "Smooth Operator" the melody of the hook slinks around between the minor 3rd, the 2, and the 1, much like the NCIS theme.
Hmmm..."Smooth Operator", my middle daughter's fave way back when...so a minor 9th, eh? Okay, maybe if you have a chance to listen to The Lambada, the long version, with the girl's voice, there is that same tension, not sure I would identify it as unresolved, but then, although I play and love music, I am not a musician, but if horses were wishes, I surely would ride.
smiles...
Ya know I never did see the end of that series. Used to be a really avid fan but it just felt like it was in a rut...with HARM becoming more of an asshole
Abby was in an episode or two of 24, and I hardly recognized her because she was blond and wearing a blue skirt-suit. It was freaking me out.
I was also very surprised to find out how much older than me she was. When watching her on NCIS, I could have sworn that she was around five years younger than I am.
Boston Legal is entertaining. And if you're doing wayback, LA Law and Hill Street Blues.
