I've enjoyed looking and chipping in to the various threads (if that's the right word) but I find it hard to see where I've been, to check on replies and developments.

If I click on other usernames I can see their 'recent posts' but is there a way to see my own recent posts?

click on your own user name of any post you have made then select "Find more posts by nylonpunkie"

or

in top menu click Quick Links / My Profile then select "Find all posts by nylonpunkie" in the Forum info section

Or click on the User CP link in the upper left and it will show you all the threads you have posted in. They call it subscribed. On the left side of the link line there will be an envelope, if it is open with a letter sticking out it means there are new posts, of course they count your recent post as new. In the lower right just outside of the list is a link to show all your subscribed threads. Click it and the list will expand to the a longer list and replace the link you just clicked on with a series of page numbers. IF you never delete a thread you participated in, that list could get to be quite long.

ETA: The color of the envelope will let you know whether it was your new post or someone else's. light tan it's your post, dark tan it's someone else post. Not necessarily an answer to your post. They really don't do that here.
