Just reading that "intellectual" thread. Some interesting ideas there. The one that caught my attention the most was the original thought that simple exposure to more ideas encourages one to put more ideas into practice. I like that.

Intellectuals are exposed to ideas more (that, plus thinking about abstract ideas, is pretty much the definition of "intellectual"). But exposure without real thinking (i.e. media) can also encourage kinkiness. Simply knowing what people do outside Bumfuk, ND, is a huge step toward understanding the world. Gee, it never occured to me that I could tie up naked women and photograph them (and it especially didn't occur that they might like it) until I actually saw pictures of tied up naked women that appeared to enjoy it. And it didn't make any sense until I started to think about sex and sexuality in terms a bit more abstract than simple reproduction.

Leave it to the web and other media. If it weren't for those we'd either be in the closet or stiffling ourselves completely. Or we'd be happy with the Missionary Position, not knowing any better.

But here's the real question. Soon. As far as I know everyone on Earth gets a kick out of some kink. Most everyone has some limits. But damned near everyone has a taste for it to some extent.

OK....here's the real question:

Does anyone know of anyone who really, really won't have anything to do with some kind of BDSM or other sexual fetish (i.e. spanking a lover's ass)? Are there any vanilla people left that aren't just pretending to be that way?

I simply don't know of any.

Not only that, but I would say there are millions in the U.S. who have no form of sexual activity.

I know far too many lol. I think Bandit and I have the same ex husband :D
If it’s true that the "simple exposure to more ideas encourages one to put more ideas into practice." Then we all need to take more responsibility in terms of what is acceptable to be seen.
There has been a flurry of film and books related to serial killers, does this mean that, as a world society, we are encouraging an increase of serial killers, or that aspects of killing will be used by people who would not have previously thought of it prior to watching and listening to the media?
On this forum most posters SAY they use SSC, it does not mean they do nor does it mean they are even in a BDSM relationship. It means that morally they like to think they do as it could be construed as the 'right' thing to say on this particular forum.
On other BDSM sites SSC is not always paramount.
Then there is the area of real rape (not play) and snuff site. If there is unlimited access to all types of information (which at present in many countries there is), is there an increase of out of control BDSM/snuff films/rape/killing. If not, why not?
Is it our own morals of right and wrong ('ours' in the sense of society not Lit per say) or is it a Government, on an international scale, cover-up? If it is our morals, then society in a few years from now should be different.
Despite propaganda there has always been single parent families (think WW1 &WW11 to start with), and killings (for example ganglands in the 60's) but close knit communities meant everyone knew every one's business therefore morality was a community issue.
Media tell us everything is readily available and people/children are now running amok.
In UK we have Anti-Behaviour Orders for children out of control who cannot be imprisoned yet Borstal or care is ineffectual.
Exposure can mean an increase in knowledge about kinkeness from mild to extreme, but what stops society becoming the next Sodom & Gomorrah or are we already past that point?
Sorry for the rambling, these are my thoughts on reading the first post.
As a final question ~if I were putting this post up as a very new newbie would you all immediatetly think I was a troll?
I am asking because recent poor grammer & posting from new people has caused this to happen recently.
I would love to here views on the ethical and philosophical dilemmas, we, as a society face in an age of information overload.

Oh yeah...shall I introduce you to my husband?...laughs :p

Well, I sorta am a troll. I introduced myself when I found some of my photographs used in the "Black& White" thread. I think the intro was moved to the main BDSM forum though, and haven't kept up with it. I'm not in the life and am only associated with it through some of my work - http://fotog.net/corpus.

But I'm a respectful and harmless troll.

Don

do not be upset if you are called a troll.

We like the "good trolls" rather than the "bad trolls."

Yep, I think that there are millions and millions and . . . well, you get the picture, don't you, Don?

I know a guy who feels that it is unnatural to spank his wife, although she WOULD love it.

I know a woman who finds anything outside the missionary position absolutely wrong, sick and perverted.

Vanilla people? We are surrounded by them.
