National Dog Show

The Skye Terrier was flippin adorable.. him with his flowing hair, short legs and dark ears. I told my sis he reminded me of a moose. Don't try to understand that thought folks, I see the world through glasses you can't even imagine. :)

I watched part of it. I have no idea how they pick the winner. They are all so cute but I know they pick them in other ways. I really enjoyed watching it.

Over the years I can't help but notice that the handlers, both male and female, tend to look sorta like the dogs they're handling.

I noticed that my Uncle looks like his pet dog. It is the strangest thing!

Also, married people start to look like each other after decades. I don't understand the science behind this. Maybe it's just my perception.

This is well documented fact. People start to look like their pets.

So what kinda dog you got? :D

Ishmael

Not me:rolleyes:, I don't look like him.

The one that died was a girl- .a bichon. The one who's left (a boy) is a mutt. His mother was cross between dashhound and corgy, dad unknown, and he was delivered via cesarian. He ended up looking a bit like a labrador/border colli. cross, but he inheritted his mom's personality. Such a gentle, good-natured dog!
Most mutts are like that - I guess there's too much inbreeding with the pure breeds.

Yours?

I don't have a dog at the present time. But I've bounced back and forth between spaniels (Britany and Springer) and gaze hounds (Saluki, Afghan, and Greyhound with the emphasis on Afghans). Looking to adopt another Afghan but going about it with care. They are a breed that are easily mishandled (ruined) by uninformed owners.

One of the dog breeds at the shows is the bearded collie. We had one when I was a teen.

Long coat too much for SW Ontario summers. So looked very much like this during hot weather. I doubt he realized how funny he looked, nor cared.

That dog loved baths. My mum would come down and find he had climbed in tub of hot soapy water she was soaking soiled and very dirty play clothes in.

Wow, those are majestic, a bit high-end dogs.
Personally, I always liked black dogs, perhaps because I grew up with them.

When I first emigrated, I was struck by the fact that a lot of dogs here were either bichon frise, or labradors; they appear to be quite popular in Australasia.
Bichons are cute and cuddly, and they are loved by women and old ladies. Moreover, their sheep-like coat (minimal hair shedding etc.) make them ideal for people with allergies (which are commonplace here).
The labradors can be quite aggressive, indeed, but by the same token, the breeds selected here are v. gentle with people and kids.

The breeds I'm attracted to are hunting dogs and I use them to hunt. Or it would be more precise to say I take them where they can do what they're happiest and most skilled at doing. I find that I end up with a more well adjusted dog by doing so.

Lol! I told my wife that it's the weird blood vessels that creep me out and she accused me of looking too closely!

She's right dude. Suggesting a MFD is out of the question now.

Ishmael

PS What if she like the dog better?

You all have taken this thread to a plane no one, not even me, expected.

buncha gooberheads, all of ya.

Male/Female/Dog. Damn, always thought you were quicker than that.

Ishmael

Age is like new tar on a road. Theoretically, a freshly maintained thoroughfare should speed you along. But in practice, I'm not that bright.

Lol! MFD. I'm gonna' go upstairs and see what my wife says when I suggest that! I bet I get a black eye. I most certainly won't be back before daybreak.

Have a great thanksgiving!
