Well?! And I can get some where?! :)

Dysfunctional narcissism gets confused with all kinds of other processes, but what I look for is a conviction that its ALL ABOUT ME, good bad or indifferent. So the real narcissist may be obsessed with paranoia or envy or inferiority or despair or failure, whatever seems to target him and not others.

It's not so much that I love myself, it just seems that way because I hate everyone else.

That rules out everyone here.

This is mostly accurate but the term 'sociopath' isn't very helpful, nor is it an accepted modern medical term. It typically refers to antisocial behavior if not antisocial personality disorder but if we mean those things we should say them. Clinicians call it Narcissistic Personality Disorder with antisocial features, Mixed Personality Disorder (clinician must list traits as this is not an official DSM diagnosis), or just diagnose NPD and list other pathological character traits from APD/Borderline/etc. It's also appropriate to diagnose both NPD and Antisocial Personality Disorder at the same time providing sufficient criteria are met for each one.

Byron in a Nutshell

...a narcissistic sociopath is unable to tolerate criticism and needs constant praise, as well as deference from other people. Many with this condition present themselves in the best light possible and are able to easily charm others to gain their trust.

Think of the above quote the next time you see Byron In Exile respond to someone disagreeing with him.

Until 1980 Gay was an official mental disorder. The APA voted to change its status. And they vote on things every few years. Gays were prolly just as queer in 1981 as in 1979, only the politics changed.

Everyone was NEUROTIC till 1980, too. I cant recall the last time anyone used that term, cuz its not official shrink-speak anymore.

The great danger for all is the voting. Yesterday you were 100% red-blooded OK, and today youre NOT OK. Like the Jews in Nazi Germany.

I wonder if anyone ever considered that the cause of this might be more metaphysical than physical/mental.

I also wondered if another diagnosis was required to be able to market the newest drug the pharmaceutical companies came up with.

Luckily for you, homophobia is technically not a mental disorder.

Basically, yes.

I saw a film that a friend sent me quite a while ago and am reminded that heroin has been used to get people off morphine.

I think witch doctors have as much success with mental problems sometimes, kind of like Tom Sawyer's wart remedies.
