I am just curious what people are using to download music, since napster is dead? I use Kazaa and WinMX but am looking for better programs.

Try Morpheus... can download music, pics, and videos. It also has a pretty cool download schema... can download a file from multiple sources at once so it gets split up and downloads much much faster.

I love Bear share. I use it almost daily and have had very little problems with it.

I used bear share and ended up with a virus...

I scan every song I download before I play it,but then again I did it with Napster too.

Have you tried any other programs? I like bear share over all...I am looking for music and audio books...I like to listen to books while I drive and since I drive about 3,000 miles a week, I go through many.

Audio books off of the net? I didnt know you can get those,if its not too nosy can you tell me if/where you have found any? I would be most interested in them.

I have used napster, bearshare and kazaa.

You can get them from bearshare or any other similar program. All you do is type in the author and do a search. On Kazaa you have to check audio first... they are broken into tracks and you would have to download each track to get a full book. I download and then burn them onto cd's

Morpheus looks exactly like Kazaa and seems to have the same database

I am stuck using an iMac for right now. :(

So I am very limited on what I can and can not use. For example, I could use Napster and Bear Share, but not Morpheus.

I am using LimeWire right now and it works great and has lots of options.

i've had some good luck with audiogalaxy ...

a friend really likes kaza's desktop thingy for music and all sorts of other stuff but audiogalaxy has worked okay for me ...

Kazaa and Morpheus share users, thats why when u are downloading from either one you can get files from .....@kazaa and .....@musiccity

They use basicly the same program with little difference, though I have heard morpheus is safer.

Yeah, Audiogalaxy works really well, but with Kazaa, You can get audio, text and full length movies....

Speaking as a computer nerd who not only researches programs himself but gets yelled at by his colleagues who are also researching the same stuff, I love Kazaa. It also splits bandwidth between multiple connections. I haven't been able to think of a song I couldn't find either.

I stick with WinMX i never really had a problem with that. I think in my opinion audiogalazy sucks.

I use kazaa and it is great for music... winmx has better files for audio books though. The only trouble with winMx is, getting the damned files downloaded... it takes forever, sometimes. I have a cable connection and wish winMx would work a bit faster... but beggers can't be choosers....and free IS free

Maybe you want to refine your search criteria on Kazaa and make it more general. I have to admit, I haven't used it to find much more than MP3's and a few videos. But in the end it's always come through for me. It even works through my firewall (OK, my employers *WEG*)

It's a scarry thought, but try doing a file search on *.whatever the book extension is and see how huge a list you get. Sometimes there's an unspoken naming convention people use to fool people who search for book/title. I've seen them mispell file names intentionally on music files to fool people looking for copyrighted material.

Like I said though, I've no experience with that aspect of the Kazaa comunity.

Best of luck!

I use Morpheous because it's the most popular program for peer-to-peer file sharing at the time. It would appear that Morpheous will replace Napster and will be the best source for file swapping. Morpheous will release it's NEW 2.0 version here soon and it should only get better. Whethere you use Morpheous,BearShare, Limewire or other programs be sure to go into the program and set up some options. Limit the amount of files to be uploaded, limit the amount of bandwidth used for the uploads. This will keep your download bandwidth and not slow you down while another peer is eating your bandwidth.

:D

Okay, walk me through that on Bearshare.

I download Buffy shows and it takes forever of someone if someone is uploading from me. I know that you can not share your files, but I dont want to cut that off,as good Buffy downloads are rare.

Oh and Shamless, your help would be appreciated,ya know. ;)

I haven't used BearShare in some time but I would turn OFF filesharing when I'm downloading and use all your bandwidth to get YOUR files. When you have what you want turn it back ON until you download a large file again. This may/will decrease your download time tremendously.

Audio Galaxy

OK so I am looking this over... and tried downloading a file. It comes up with a message that "I don't have enough credit and need to upload files first". I go to help to see about uploading files and can't find any details on ho to, do it.... file uploads that is....
