When is it?

Can someone give me the lowdown? I want to do one this year, but what are the basics...or specifics...?

Nano is Lou's baby. She knows the most about it I think. :)
I's a gret exercise and fun, I can tell you that. :)

NaNo... it's 30 days of Hell. You sign a contract in blood agreeing to write a novel of atleast 50.000 words in 30 days.
The first few days, it's fun. By day 10, you're screaming and cussing, convinced you'll never make it. By day 20, you swear to all religions that you'll never do this again. By day 30, you stop eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom, in the vain attempt to write 24.000 words in 24 hours.

One week later, you're eager to do it all again.

I was planning to NaNo this year, but with going back to school for the first time in years, I don't think I'll be able to make the time. Kinda sucks cuz I already had an idea of what I wanted to write.

Being a nanny most of the time....will I have time to write a novel?

Hmmmm....Svenska, you make it sound uh...great. :p

I've got another manga story coming on. A shonen-ai story: "Doll Face".

It's gonna be about a boy, Akira, who one day finds a cute girl crying by the river outside an amusement park. She tells him that her brothers make her dress up like an antique doll to attract visitors to their Hauntred House attraction. He tries to cheer her up by telling her that she looks very pretty, and he kisses her. That's when her brothers show up, laugh at him, and tell him that the girl - Kyo - ISN'T a girl, but their baby brother!

Yeah, I know, I have a thing for cross-dressing...

It sounds like someting I could really benefit from... but I'll probably kill myself in the process.

Hey, I consider doing tha NaNo this year because I'm back in school, and therefore have a little more time on my hands. :)

I'll probably try again this year (notice the operative word "try").

I've been working on my outline/timeline and now it's at 1700 words (and it's not quite done).
Is that excessive?
Am I doing too much?
Am I talking to myself?

Nano was a blast for me. i just sat down and wrote. I had the wrods quote done before week one expired, so I had plenty of time to tweak, fine tune and cheerlead across the rest of it.

Logo:

i wrote down my characters, did a general outline on each. Did a relationship matrix for the mains and let it go at that. It was actually more than I needed as the story told itself. The caveat there was my characters were already extremely well developed ith no effort on my part :)

Hmm, just 11 weeks left until the mayhem starts. Time to start preparing... *starts photocopying character sheets*

How's everyone doing with this?
I kinda had to turn my back on my prep work on a day that the muse was calling to me and now she's left me.
I keep opening the file and looking at it, but nothing comes.
I don't think I can NaNo.

Logo, I wouldn't get so caught up in the prep work. Some do a ton of it, and then some do very little, or none at all. I didn't finish last year (for shame!) but I did get a decent amount written, with very little prep work. I just knew where the story was going ahead of time, and that was about it. This year I'll have to do a little more research, etc., simply because of the story I'm planning to write, but I'm still not going to do that much. For me, it sucks the creativity right out of me to go that deep simply for the prep work.

Try it. If you don't finish, you don't finish - no big deal.

Part of the point of doing NaNo is that you write no matter what. Doesn't matter if the muse is having a good day or a bad day. You just write.

And yes, you can totally NaNo. You'll be great.

NaNo isn't so much about actually finishing and reaching the magic 50K goal, it's about having loads of fun with your friends while you're TRYING to write. The best part about it is that it creates a good habit. I got over a dry spell of writing thanks to NaNo.

When I hit 50K last year, I swore I wouldn't lift a pen for weeks afterwards, but the habit had gotten to me, and I had to continue writing or I'd feel restless. I've got many new stories this year to prove that.
