okay ya'll...I might be the only one that cares or notices, but is anyone else tired of the same old boring names they give hurricanes every year? Granted, they are nice names, ie:Isabel, Celeste, Hazel, kristof, Andrew etc, but I was thinking it would be so much fun if they ( NOAA) alternated naming these awesome storms with the names of lets say, fruit and vegetable? LOL..yeah, maybe silly, but take these for instance:

This just in from the national hurricane center in Coral Gables Florida

hurricane Artichoke has a stranglehold on Barrier Islands of NC at the present time.

Hurricane Beet is now bearing down on the Grand Bahama Islands. Forecasters are expecting her to deliver quite a whallop before the storm has passed..

if anyone is in the mood, please contribute..I get bored so easily, as you can see... I'm willing to dance if ya'll will provide the music :)

ps, the name should have some type of modifier that makes it sort of funny...;)

OT, I remember your sensual weathercast, you are REALLY good at this stuff, show me whatcha got baby :)

This name frightens me, lol. I thought this hurricane originated from north of where I am.

(I'm sorry Maria--I suck at this sort of thing--the only C I could think of was cookie, and that put that sesame st song in my head

c is for cookie; that's good enough for me,
oh cookie, cookie, cookie starts with C

you know? And then I couldn't think of anything else. I was a real little scholar once, but motherhood messed up everything, lol.)

well, I dont think you suck at anything, but thanks for trying...and it also doesnt have to be in any certain ( ABC) order. I just have that PMS sort of insominia I get so often and felt sorta silly after I posted anyway. My husband asked me if I was slightly crazy, and I told him, why Dear, theres no such thing as slightly crazy....;)

Well, being single in VA I know that soon I'll be getting some Dick. That's right. Hurricane Dick will do some heavy pounding before it goes limp.

(hey, the name is wicked eve. what else can you expect from me?)

No need to be afraid. Of course it's properly called a beetroot. I am confused about the relationship between whallop and beet, but i see there is a thread about codswhallop. Is this Rybkas good influence?

I must also say on the subject of hurricanes from the north, that about the only nice thing one can say about Canadian weather is that they don't have hurricanes.

But before I go, as this is the poetry board, may I rhyme a bit?

Beetroot
Is not a fruit.
But sugar beet
Is kinda sweet.
When eaten cold it is not
As tasty as when eaten hot.

Eat vegetables at every meal,

Well... I guess it's not a fruit, but you can eat fruit and you can eat a... Okay, it's not the same as fruit -- just similarities.

I think I can say with some assurance that beet is often pickled.

darkmaas

but not always, in fact, I've made tasty roasted lamb chops with a broken beet sauce that is just divine.

I imagine he was when he wrote that poem.

Pickled like a beet
but not so sweet
rolling weaving
always believing
love between the sheet

I was sitting here wondering if Eve's Hurricane Dick had petered out yet or if he is still with pecking distance...please give me an update later as of the status of the up-comming storm

somehow I feel like I set myself up with that "beet" thing...

This is quite a penetrating discussion, though somewhat less so now that we discover that the approaching hurricane is, well, smaller than originally proclaimed. Isn't it always thus? :)

I carved a zucchini once at a zucchini festival, I won, of course.

Nothing to do with a hurricane, however it was a fish.

If I can find the thread, there's another zucchini poem posted here somewhere that is very funny. Let's see if I can.

of hurricanes, fish and codswallop

E Hurricane Endive is tossing just off the coast. Lettuce pray that it will not be as vicious as last year's Raddichio.

ok, if it'll help you sleep

Hurricane Banana will peel up the coast later today. As the storm ripens, it's expected that winds near the pie of the storm will whip and cream wide slices along the east coast. In its wake, expect to find crumbly crust in empty shells.

This just in, sometime after midnight Hurricane Cherry will break against the Virgin Islands.

Smashing east at 10mph, hurricane pumpkin will blast ashore.
