Give me a clue! In a few weeks we are taking charge of an Alaskan Malamute and i want a really good moniker for him.

I entrust all you AH peeps to come up with something better than Tyler (my kids idea!!)

He's a dog and grey and white in colour, suggestions purleese!

By the way, I am a CVT (certified veterinary technician) and amateur animal behavior expert, so if you have any questions, I'd be happy to try and help.

That's a long name

I'd offer up some suggestions, but I've had a snake named Precious, a parakeet named Kitty, and a pit bull named Contessa (shortened to Tessa, you perverts) so I don't think I should be allowed to name any more animals.

Hi SF (if I may call you that) I'm looking for a more mystical Inuit type name, as for the help I'd appreciate it but I cant afford the Airfare, We reside in not so sunny england. but I will keep you in mind unless you fancy a fare only holiday in the garden of England that is?

Cheers HK
:D

I get letters and emails from people who have read my book who have named their new dogs Ratfuck, after my characters dog. Feel free to use that if you'd like.

Check out the movie Brother Bear -- lots of good Inuit names there.

(Although, I think I'd avoid "Sitka" because it might confuse him when training him to 'Sit.')

Try two rats named Pig and Chicken.

Hey Hotch, it is my duty as a veterinary employee to please ask that you neuter your dog, if he is not so already. If you don't he'll act like a bastard forever and piss on everything. He also will have an increased risk of developing testicular tumors, and possibly cancer in his older years. Plus, personally, old dog balls are rather disgusting. Take my word for it if you've never seen a set.

If he is an Alaskan Malamute then an ethnic name might be in order, like:

CHINOOK = a type of wind

In any case, there is a site that lists dog names, both dog names in general or Dogs from Alaska.

Naming a pet is a serious business. A child can later object and take a nickname, but a dog or cat is stuck with whatever you hang on it.

Calling any animal Muffy or Peanut should be criminalized.

No wonder pets attack!

Anything named Sweetie, Sugar, Precious, Baby, or any variations of those will BITE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU eventually. I see it happen every day.

A few Cherokee names (not Inuit, but native, nonetheless):

uhusti - brave
ayastigi - warrior
unula - storm
unalasgi - thunder

Dear Hotch,

I just realized that I totally ran all over your thread. I do apologize. It must be that I just came home from work and after dealing with dogs all day, felt the need to go crazy on your 'name my dog' thread, while providing no helpful information, such as a relevant name for said dog.

Please accept my apology and enjoy your new pet, whom I will forever in my heart refer to as "Shabootie."

Ulrick and Ronin are cool names for dogs. My dog is named King the Second. Real original eh?

Thanks Cloudy youve give me something to think about, like you say not Iinuit but very American native (that sounds so crass) I'm very concious of the differing tribal structure here in the UK believing myself to be mainly celt but most likely nordic. I would just like a really emotive name for someone who I want to believe will be a real family member.

thanX HK

Doesn't sound crass.....after all "native american" is sort of an oxymoron, isn't it? After all, we are the only people native to this land. ;)
