Naked Or Nude?

Are you nude or naked? In my semiotic little place, there is a distinction. On AH, we have discussed whether naked was sexy. What are your thoughts in poetry? HOW do you use these two words? Which is more of a turn on for erotic poetry? Nude or naked? And why?

Nude to me spills from John Berger, and the diff between being alone or observed. Naked is raw SOUNDING though, which is immediate and hot, and nude is sensual - to me. What is your take?

I would love to be comfortably nude; however, when I get undressed I'm naked! Does that make sense?

(gave me an idea for the Nekkid challenge, though! lol)

I agree with the sensual/animal distinction. You can get naked, and you can feel naked, but you can only be nude.

I have been truly nude... alone and in mixed company- quite a large company, actually! Theres really no way (for me) to describe the joy and sensuality in that condition. But I have also been naked- sometimes clothed!

Hey, Lauren! *waves

I feel more naked when I'm naked. Naked is more than the body. My eyes are naked. My intentions. Only my body can be nude. I think naked is more interesting--in that sense.

Both you and Boo make a good case. Lauren adds raw. Naked is more stripped sounding? Imitates emotion? Eventually emulates exhibitionist, perhaps? Where nude - you know you are naked? and therefore the exhibition aspect becomes numb, as Boo suggests and does not say?

Just a convo. :D

Does bare fit in anywhere between nude and naked? Bare likes to be between nude and naked. :) I was looking at some of my poems and realized that I use bare about 3 times more than naked or nude. I like the way nude sounds compared to naked. Nude is ooooo and naked is ack! Well, to me it is. lol

Bare does have a more appealing sound that either of them, doesn't it? :)

That makes sense to me because I think it much more revealing to show how you feel inside than what you look like. I'm not sure nude can work metaphorically the same way naked can, you know?

It's a good convo. :)

Devils advocate: the shadow, and always with Dionysis, is with the mood, subtle yet raw and nude in my thought. Apollo, bright and sunny, naked and inline with the conservative aspects of sexuality ... is to the naked eye? Not conservative cliche? What is sexy? The bright and known from a metaphorical world. Or the dark and myserious sensuality ... just ... and just beyond your grasp as the moon swims blue, nude, over you?

EEK A RHYME! LOL :rose:

Probably a combination is sexy yes, but anyone can see your body. You can give that, be forced to give it, but who can see your thoughts? That intrigues me. And I have to admit that I, personally, am more drawn to Apollo than Dinonysis and Zeus more than either of them.

And Diana (is she Greek or Roman? The huntress?). I write about her. She's my favorite.

Which has nothing to do with nude unless I make the poem about her, which I just might. :)

Dionysus is the moon, the hidden, the Jungian. Apollo is the seen, the law, the Freudian. We fear the dark, and raw ... pehaps you dont want to go there? Nude is a beautiful word, but means so much deeper. Naked is raw, and bare on the surface, like the sun washing us with lies and mirages? No? :) We see in the light, but do not LOOK unless it is dark? :D

ahhhhhh... *swoons with passion... Did you see them in London at Hyde Park? Were they not wonderful? Is there anything better than PF reunited? Yes- Pink Floyd reunited and going on tour again and I get tickets! Then I could die happy!

But I write about darkness, in nature and metaphorically, all the time. I write about dark times in my life. Nude as a noun is beautiful to me because of the art imagery it conjures and the whole idea of the human form as art. I'm just not an exhibitionist with anything but language. Hell, I'm a Gemini, can't you tell? :D

I'm very very cerebral; it's who I am. Not that I can't be earthy as well as airy--I definitely can--but I'm private about it...though everyone says it comes out in my poems anyway.

Naked is uncomfortable or awkward nudity.

I use both seperately and in many combinations.

;)

Have to be careful here and not give 'naked' a negative connotation...

"She stood in the moonlight, naked for him."

Thats not a bad thing. Nude would not have worked there at all.

Yes, I can see that.

That puts naked back in the raw but not solitary state, right?
