My tongue hurts.

Damn it.

Remember that wire the evil orthodontist installed a couple weeks ago? Well, they had to remove it because it was cutting into my tongue.

He gave me time to heal, remade the wire, and installed it again just two days ago. It isn't as bad this time, I can tell I will probably adjust, but right now my tongue is so tender. I was wondering if anyone knows of anything that will work as some sort of bandaid.

Just for a couple of hours - just enough time to let things relax.

Do any of those canker sore liquid bandaid things work on your tongue?

No ideas, sweetie. Just *HUGS*

Having had wires in my gums, I can sympathize.

(Why am I reminded of the kid with the bandaged tongue in "A Christmas Story"? :D )

Kisses - thank you.

I'm taking ibuprofen by the handful, I'm afraid.

But this isn't too bad - it relieved the pain for a bit, and maybe things will settle out a bit now.

:rose:

*HUGS* sweetie.

When I had braces, Way back when, they had a type of wax that could be placed on the gums and tongue. It helped to protect them.

And I'm still wonderin if nipples can explode ..................... hey, I just got this idea.

They still do that, Cat, I'm just not certain how to manage it.

The wire goes along the roof of my mouth and connects to my back molars - it is supposed to keep them where they've been moved.

The problem is my tongue pushes up against the wire. I don't think I can get wax to stay on the wire - if I could, that would certainly help.

My tongue is too active.

And before you pervs laugh about THAT one, that's what the orthodontist said.

I'm not laughing. Not at all. ;)

Well, this may be a problem for you, but we all love you in spite of, and because of, your lil faults.

This may sound stupid, but could you use gum or wax over the wires so your tongue doesn't touch the wires?

I dunno what to suggest, I'm just trying to be helpful and sympathetic at the same time. ;)

The wax won't stay - I just tried it.

But gum - hmmmm. That's an idea.

Good suggestion, Wildcard!

This is what the wire looks like. I have that exact shape imbedded in my tongue.

That's kinda what I was thinking it looked like. I'd think that you could mold a well chewed piece of gum around the wire. Wrigleys gets pretty stiff once it's been worked over for awhile.

Nope, with a set up like that the wax won't work. You can try packing well chewd gum in there, but I doubt it will work.

A little hint that I used oh so long ago. Crush up some Cloves with a bit of water, (just a few drops) and pack this in along the area. Clove Oil is an anesthetic and the bodies of the cloves themselves will help to cushion your tongue.

But I was thinking of using rum, actually.

:cathappy:

Sarahh's not drunk enough yet ;)

*hugs*

Those wideners were the one part of the brace setup I didn't need, and I am so glad.

*hugs again*

Rum is YUMMY

The Rum is a great idea...and will work, even if not ingested :) and it's more fun than listerine or peroxide

Heck..I say it's worth a shot
