I had a story at

http://www.chyoo.com:81/index.php/main.story.cover/2969

that got deleted and wasn't even on the main page. I happened to work a lot on it before it was erased, probably about 12 threads or so. Wasn't much, but probably better than a good chunk of others who didn't use any extra assistance. It would have been nice if someone would've e-mailed me before they decided to delete it, or I dunno, actually posted some information about anything at all.

Probably Random

I don't think anyone erased it. I have seen the database screw up before like this and just blank a story out. What was it called before it went blank? Had it been approved before it went blank? Were you the only author on the story?

A good idea is to back your stories up in word or some such program so you can copy them into the system again if something happens. I have had a couple of stories do the same thing over the past three years.

well when you put it that way..

It makes it sound like nobody's at fault but the database.. But at the same time what if they're all plotting against me? or maybe it was both.. Oh well, already checked archive.org for backing information, but alas I found nada.

It was called sad d00d, maybe the sad d00d, though i'm pretty sure sad d00d. it was under the swingers category. It had swingers and pirates and fairs and movies. It even had some bad ending where you jumped into the ceiling fan. Probably had about 7 or so people reading and liking it.. I guess I could ask if they have a huge cache, or what they remember of it so I can undergo reconstructing the extravagant life of sad d00d. It was rejected over something to do with spelling, though all it had were grammatical errors after about the 6th thread.

At first I was mad over it since I ran into many others with jumble-words and sentences, but I realized it was necessary to polish the look of sad d00d and make sure his life was quite professional-looking and random, and was slowly piece by piece adding to the story even more and fixing errors during periods of uninspiration.

I was also the only author of the story (username bredcrumbz). Woulda been nice to have others, but it was such an out-there story that I don't think anyone would have been able to add anything to it. Too out there I guess.

I had the same thing happen to one of my stories, luckily it was during the CHYOO.net era, and there was a backup on there, and I was able to recover most of it. It was The Mailroom Guy. I could have reconstructed my part of the story from my own archives, but I wouldn't have had any of the other writers work without chyoo.net.

The best thing to do is chalk it up to experience, and start writing your threads in some kind of text editor and pasting them into the add thread form. This alo avoids the problem of timing out on the web site while writing. I've lost one thread that way as well.

Soo, if chyoo dot net does not do a random database deletion while chyoo dor org does, why use chyoo dot org?

Lack of readers and lack of stories on chyoo.net. Random deletions are rare on chyoo.com. The wealth of stories on chyoo.com is considerable. It would be years before chyoo.net had that many.

It is not that big of a problem unless it happens to you. Out of the 2,000 stories submitted to teh site I think less than 10 have self destructed like your did. I know that sucks if it is yours as I had one of mine do the same thing. There are some threads that can be salvaged out of it, if you look at the really long list that comes up with the first page some of them lead to the threads in the story. I can help you by copying them if you can't see them for some reason.

I suspect that the upgrade that is coming will fix the database errors that have occured. Hopefully they will use something that will not corrupt.
