He's 14 and while looking for a pair of boxers, I told him if he'd like his clothes washed, all he needs to do is bring his dirty laundry to the laundry room and I'll be *glad* to wash it.

So, as I'm putting his nappy clothes in the washer, I notice that some of his "dirty" shirts are already folded.

I asked him when he thought it was proper to fold his clothes to bring them to the laundry room?

"Hey!! I haven't even worn those!!"

no kidding?! So what are they doing in the dirty clothes?

Little shit!

I had a rule that no clothes got washed unless they were put in the laundry. Only trouble was, they'd clean their rooms (every 6 months  ) and I'd end up with about 3 loads of laundry from each kid!

With my son (many moons ago), he'd have run out of clothes if that had been an enforced rule <snicker - his mother wasn't very good at enforcing the rules she made>, so every couple of weeks, I'd gather up my native bearers and load the weapons, go into the jungle he called a bedroom and try to find clothing that hadn't grown legs and walked away - at least enough to keep him going for another couple of weeks.

See -- this is my nightmare!! I don't want to venture into his room. I've been to the door, and that's as far as I want to go. I don't even know how he makes to his bed with all the stuff on his floor. Maybe he floats, jumps or pole-vaults.

I'm not his maid, and that's my rule. You want clean clothes, you bring it to me. I don't bend on that rule. He's also responsible for putting it away. Obviously, he's not that good at following that rule, either.

I need to break out my flogger. <snort>

wow...i can actually ask them to bring their clothes to the laundry room?

You betcha!! I wouldn't have it any other way!

I think I read this at a friends house:

"M" stands for Mother, not MAID.

:D

well i do wish that my son would learn that his mother is not his maid and i am not his butler.

Very cute story...:D

Having been a single parent Dad and raised both a girl and boy. House rule was if the dirty clothes didn't make the hamper in the laundry room they did get washed. If you needed something special to wear and it was dirty! It was laundry lesson time...:D

Both kids are very sucessful at cooking, cleaning, and laundry thanks to Dad...;)

Ok, I got suspicious when B, my three year old, started bringing me the phone, and my book and the nail clippers, and givng big kisses. Went in the bathroom, she'd dumped all the cat food all over the floor. Definately explains why she was being so nice.

Yeah, gotta love it! Even at a early age kids figure out a ways of bailing themselves out trouble...:D I remember when my kids would do something wrong they would snuggle up in Daddy's lap and hug...:) It always seemed to reduce the punishment somehow! Not that I'm a easy touch...;)

He's always been a slacker when it came to laundry. His sister, who just moved out the first part of this summer, has always been the maternal type and would pick up his room and make sure his laundry was done. She spoiled him. (I'm blaming her, you see?! ;) )

He's a pretty good cook for only being 14, and he doesn't mind running the vacuum once in a while... But obviously, that laundry thing has him stumped. ;)

Sounds like you did a wonderful job with your two! Yay Dad!! :)

graceanne, I remember when my kids were that young that they too, would also do stuff like that and of course the first thing that popped into my head is, "What have you done?"

Ohhhhhhhh, those were the days!! :D

lol Know what gets me through it? I know I'm not having any more. I'm done with bottles, in a few years I'll be done with diapers. Someday soon I won't be sweeping up cat food on a several times a week basis! *sigh*

graceanne,

I remember thinking that, too! My youngest of three, is the 14 year old. My oldest has been grown and gone for so long that I forget things sometimes. My second oldest just moved out this summer, surviving the nest emptying thing again.

One thing I've not forgotten is that they do grow up and move out much sooner than I ever anticipated. I hug and kiss him often, telling him how much I love him and how proud I am of him. :)

I do that too, when I'm proud. I just got done vacuuming sugar from the carpet, so they didn't get hugs and kisses.

I'm sitting here laughing, because I really do remember those days.

I even remember one day when my oldest was about 6 (who is now 23) broke an ink pen over my brand new cloth couch. I don't remember her getting any kisses or hugs that day, either!

LOL And that's why I refuse to buy new furniture. K wants to refinish the dining room table, and I'm totally against it. Then I'll live in fear of spills and stuff.

::covering my ears(eyes):: Maybe I don't want to be reading this!

We have just decided that babies are in our somewhat near future (next two years) I'm pretty excited and nervous... in a good way.

Don't buy new furniture, and be prepared to lvoe like you've never loved before.

When a friend of mine was little a few days after her baby brother was born she went up to her mommy and said she didn't think it was going to work out between them. The previous year to get her to give up pacifiers they told her to give them to Santa for all the other little girls that needed them. So she suggested giving her brother to Santa and couldn't understand why her mommy was so mad.
