My smut reading is making me look stupid

a few professors today were comparing their recent reads and I didn't have anything to add because it's either smut or trash ROFL I just smiled and pretended I was far to busy working to read lately.

Then I stopped by the library to pick up my reserved copy of a young adult vampire book LOL

bah you know they are only discussing those books to make themselves look good. They actually go and get the cliff notes and read that and then get back to their true passion, the smut that we read!

Eragon deserves a special place in hell.

Oh dear god, the movie *quivers*. It shits on everything I like with all the force it can muster.

PS: I read twilight before it was popular. Forks sounds awesome, and so did Bella's wagon. Literature it is not.

I've read the first two twilight books mostly cause my eleven year old is into the movies, and now the books, and I like to keep up on what she's doing. They're okay - definitely written for teeny boppers.

I haven't read Eragon, but I've seen the movie. My six year old loves that movie and I hate it. It's like a bad copy/cross between star wars and lord of the rings.

At least it's smut instead of smutty fanfiction - that one's even harder to explain away.

Usually when someone asks what I'm reading I just tell them that there's a few sites around that I read stories on - that it's a way for people to get practice and have readers without having to battle the publishers. Then when they scoff, I point out the name of the author who is now on her second series.

If the person IRL knows me well enough or if I need the shock factor I'll even admit to the fact that said author writes really, really good smut.

I'm sneaky - listening to a talking book in the car while driving doesn't actually count, you know.

I have to drive quite long distances to the nearest big city for work reasons so I download mp3 audio books from a variety of sources.

And technically, well I'm not actually reading Harry Potter/vampire stuff/pulp best-sellers, I'm listening to them. That means I never have to actually confess to reading them, right?

I will hasten to add it doesn't work quite so well for erotic fiction - driving can become a trifle distracting. :D

I read whatever I like and everyone else can deal with it.
I went from the Mists of Avalon (heavy) to Looking Glass Wars (not heavy, but super fun to read).
It's what I do when I'm relaxing. Why should anybody else get a vote on how I relax? :)

I so agree. Reading is one of the few things I do for me.

What's your point?

I'm talking about me *eyes ever-increasing pile of unread books*. I get to the point that when things are really busy I never seem to find any time to read anything other than magazines, newspapers, and some online stuff. It becomes a habit, and I find it hard to get back into reading good stuff because I get lazy. I think my attention span shrinks or something :)

The last time I was asked what I was reading, I told the truth -

A biography of the man who wrote the first three bibliographies of erotic literature and illustrations, during the reign of Queen Victoria.

I haven't been asked what I'm reading, since.

Funny, I got a girl stiffy and a curious look on my face all in the same moment from reading this.

I read a lot of smut. My mother gives me no end of grief over this. My mother is a type A person who thinks you should spend every second of every day trying to find a way to better yourself and/or make more money. That said, I run all day. I take kids to their stuff and friends to their stuff, and volunteer at the school, and go to church and bible study, and and and

When I read I'm taking a break. I do not want anything that's gonna take any energy or that I have to work my brain over. I need down time.

Ah, I see. For me, reading is a lust I must satisfy. I have to have a very high fever or something to NOT read.

Me, too. LOL The longest I've ever gone not reading is when I was so sick that first time, and I slept pretty much 24/7. Otherwise I read on the toilet, I keep a book in my car so I can get five minutes in the pickup line at school....

Exactly like me when I used to do those horrible pick up lines. I take at least one book with me everywhere. It's essential to my well being and happiness.

I've recently come to realize that being forced to read or not read is on my list of HARD fucking limits.

I read a lot at times, like 4 or 5 books a week. But when I am busy I still manage 1 or 2. Almost always some smutty book, they are the best.

I think it is funny the people I work with say they are jealous that I get time to read. I tell them you have to make time to read. They know I read smutty and they are still jealous. Funny coming from a place where almost everyone has a Master's Degree. LOL.

Oh, and yes I have read the Twilight and other teen books. Keeps me up to dat eon what the kids are reading. :)

Usually I don't mind kids/young adult books, but I simply cannot bring myself to read a book about sparkly vampires.

They aren't such bad books, it's just that I personally didn't like any of the main characters except Jacob. I was surprised by how much I didn't hate the books in this series.

I love teen books, they just didn't seem to have the amount and variety back when I was a teen, so I"m catching up LOL I also didn't have access to a regular library all that often, but I did have acess to a Bible College library all I wanted ROFL. I read a lot of CS Lewis as a kid.

I find that now I have phases of different genres, so I'm on teen and smut now. I'm not really ashamed of it, meh, I live most of my life for my family, so what I read is for me!
