according to the man.

I'm drawing a pic of my daughter, my mother and myself. I've done the two of them and am working on myself. The man says I'm not drawing what I see, I'm drawing what I feel. He says I have a knack for capturing spirit, but that he thinks I don't see myself in a very good light, because of the way I'm drawing myself.

It reminds me how much perspective colors our lives. Do you really see people? Do they really see you? How much is them, and how much is you?

can you tell I'm procrastinating? I have to finish it by tomorrow<sigh>

If you don't draw what you FEEL then you might as well just take a photo. *smile*

As far as your self-esteem goes... give me a chance and I'll raise if for you Friday!

Pictures or no pictures, I think you're great!!

Agreed.:) Even if you see yourself differently, at least you have the abillity to express it, to get it out, to make the transitory permanet.

thankyou emerald and patient1. I'd be happy with just being able to put a some sort of likeness on the page without wanting to stab my eyes out.

WOW!

Perky thats great.:)
We never see ourselves as others do. Try looking through someone elses eyes while you draw yourself, take it one feature at a time.

You know me, Miss emotional. I think the picture is just wonderful. It saddens me you are having such a hard time with yourself. I think you just need to relax hon. You have been so busy and under so much stress lately. I think you are so beautiful both inside and out....

I'm trying. It's always been my biggest block, self portraits. You'd think I would have given myself more time.

<dejected sigh>

I didn't get it hon. I knew something was up.
I wish I could hold up the mirror so you could see what I see.
Hmmm...I think I am finally getting what someone once tried to explain to me.

Perky, think sexy and intelligent, which is what you are. Get that sassy attitude of yours going and then draw yourself. :)

By the way, that baby of yours is too cute!

you guys, remind me to whine to you the next time I can't draw. Y'all are a great support system. Thank you very much. I'm yours if any of you ever need a shoulder. I'm a firm believer in paying it forward.

Perky the drawing is beautiful and will be a keepsake for your daughter one day. Listen to the man and the voice inside you. Draw the proud, sassy mom we all see.

Perky?
Use a photograph.
Of you.
Draw the woman in the photograph into your picture, one feature at a time.

Then it won't be you looking back from the mirror and moving from your eyes through your arm and into the portrait you're doing, it'll be the woman in the photo.

Likely you've thought of this, but maybe you haven't.
If not, maybe it will help you past the block.
:rose:

Are you drawing from a mirror? Of course anything you draw will be shadowed by your perspective, but if you focus on the general proportions and then your features it might help a little?

I've always had a hard time with self-portraits too. Good luck to you. It looks very good so far. :)
