It sucked, just not as much as Phantom Menace. All of you dweebs who are now on your third, fourth, and fifth viewing will realize this as soon as it leaves the theatres and you're forced to watch that stilted and corny acting on your mom's black and white at home.

Highlight: Yoda laying down the smack.

Lowlight: The rest of the movie. No surprises, nothing expansive or tech. breaking. It sucked.

It blew too.

For me it's tough to judge these movies fairly.

It's kinda like watching your favorite TV show. You don't judge each show independently. Really, you're just glad to be able to watch each episode.

That's how I feel about the Star Wars movies.

We knew that certain things had to happen. I was surprised by the origin of the Storm Troopers. There were precursors to what we know is going to happen in the next movie or what HAS happened in the original three. They HAD to be there.

In some ways, Lucas has tied his own hands a bit, because the outcome is predetermined so his flexibility is limited.

It was okay. It was better than Phantom Menace but still lacked alot. Spiderman was a much better movie than "Clones".

What it comes down to is that Lucas is a great producer and story teller but is not a good director. Hell, go back to the original three and it has long been agreed that Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi are much better than Star Wars (which is the only one of the first three he directed).

He needs to stick to that formula. He has managed to produced some of the best moives ever.....perfect example is Indiana Jones.

Okay, the seismic mines from Slave I weren't cool? The sound effects were awesome.

I also liked the idea of detachable hyperdrives for small fighters and one man ships. Cool deal.

Funny how the technology devolved in the later movies...

The asteroid field was fun, the delayed blast was a nice effect. But let's face facts, the acting was horrid. Natalie Portman and young Anakin were like high school freshmen unsure about what goes where, not long-lost lovers happy to get their groove on after years of pining.

It wasn't THAT bad. lol. But still...too much mushy crap and whinny brooding. I know the whinny brooding was necessary, but so much of it??? All I'm thinking is "Why is she falling for him again?" and "somebody needs a sound spanking".

As to the action, while it was great, why was there a 15 minute car chase (ok, flying space cars, but still) and only 2 minutes of Yoda kicking ass? The Yoda scene ended and I was sooo disappointed. I wanted more! And I thought Sam Jackson was going to have a lot more to do as well.

All in all as a Star Wars movie I was disappointed, but as a Sci-Fi action flick, it was cool.

The best part though was the preview for the next Matrix Movie. But 2003??? 3? They filmed it like 3 years ago!

I read the script and it seems pretty piss-poor. Havent seen it yet and probably wont for a month or so.

Jango Fett still kicks ass though.

That looks very cool... 2003... bastards

Good action scenes, stupid names, bad young actors. The dialogue was just stupid but why Natalie Portmans character would go for Annakin is beyond me. Ewan MacGregor is much hotter. Loved the light saber battles.

I have to give you that Marxist, SO true.

Annakin just had those eyes like he was looking at Natalie Portman like a wolf looks at an injured lamb - some chicks dig that kinda shit.

;)

I got tired of listening to him whine about not being able to do what he wanted to do. Was he supposed to be 17 or 9?

No he didn't! He got his ass kicked pretty quicky. Even the fight scene with McGregor, I mean, all he did was shoot at him.

Y'know what really sucks about a sequel like "Clones" is that while you're watching the movie you're re-writing, re-directing, and re-casting it while it's going on.

I'm not a big Ridley or Tony Scott fan of late, but one can only imagine what it would've looked like if they'd gotten their hands on this material with Tarantino as a script polisher.

I think Lucas will learn in the last episode of this cycle. Maybe.

With Anakin the way he was, and Kenobi being relaxed and cool, you'd think Padme woulda went for him. Interesting thought juicygirl.

Last night, I was talking to a co-worker about the scene where SAnakin's talking about how he killed innocents,(althoth, they captured ans tortured his Mom, so, I can't see how their innocent,)and, she was saying, "man, this guys a great actor." I was like, "Great actor...or, where you thinking about his body?" I thought that scene lacked ANY emotion, he was just whining. "Oh, I kille people. My Mom's dead. Whoo is me." I agree, Marxcist, I liked Clones better than Menace, but, it still lacked.

I meant as a character... bounty hunter, cool armour etc....

Oh, well, yeah ok. lol

See I am one of those adults that was raised on Star Wars. I was born in '75 and had 7 older, Star Wars obsessed brothers. So when there was a really rainy day, we'd pop the trilogy in the VCR and mumble all the lines, act them out, it was really a huge part of my childhood.

Add to that 20 years of raised expectations, waiting and waiting for these films, and I've pretty much accepted that there's no way they are going to live up to my standards. There are a million changes I would make, and whoever mentioned the fact that you're refilming it in you head was dead on, but I'm trying to take the films for what they are.

They can't possibly live up to the originals.

STAR WARS AOTC RULES

I saw AOTC on Sat and it was way better then Episode 1. The action was amazing and the specila effects were great. For the people who are giving it a bad review GET A LIFE.

STAR WARS will always RULE

I'll give it this much: when I was watching it, I was thinking of ways it could've been so much better rather than simply staring at the screen and wondering what terrible thing I'd done to deserve this cruel fate. In that, it was better than Phantom Menace.

Oh the other hand, it was disappointing to see something that almost worked but fell flat. Worse to see this happen in every other scene. That scene where he admitted to killing all the sandpeople could've been so much better. I think it was supposed to be a turning point for the character, but it came off as just another display of self-absorbed petulance. I hate them! I hate them all! Yes, dear. You hate everything. Next? If he'd been just a little less whiny and unbearable in previous scenes, his outburst might've meant something.

Then again, with the whining, I'm starting to see where Luke got it from. Still, I would've liked to have seen Anakin make a slow downward spiral. Instead, we last see him as a little kid with something resembling a personality, then suddenly he's an unbearable angsty snot. Any character development that might've made his transformation interesting happened off-screen.

Was anyone else vaguely amused that Jar Jar inadvertantly doomed the Republic? This is what happens when you let Space-Goofy go into politics.

Naudiz, I rewrote his slaughter of the sandpeople over and over again in my head.

I would have used that long shadow shot where he got off his motorscooter and just showed him illuminating his lightsaber and wasting the village with just his saber cutting shadows in two. It would have been divine.

I really wished they'd used someone more gifted for the role, who's this year's Leonardo?

The love scenes between Anakin and Amidala were completely torrid....there were people laughing when I was in the cinema watching it because they were so cheesy and the dialogue was so poor.

But the action rocked....especially Yoda telling Dooku that he still had much to learn..**** stuff!

Overall a big disappointment though, I'm undecided on whether it was better than Phantom Menace, simply because of the terrible love scenes....

Call me corny or something.

See for me, the thing is this: I've seen alot of special effects in alot of other movies. I know they can be done. I didn't go just to see, or be satiated by flashy computer done action scenes alone. I went to see more of the Star Wars universe. That whole chase scene around Coruscant just pissed me off and depressed me.

I agree with Naudiz about Anakin. If the actor had tried to act with more rage and deep down anger, it would have been so much better. Anakin did come off very whiny. It makes it difficult to see him as Vader, no matter what may happen in the future.

I wonder how much was horrible acting and how much was simply bad writing and directing that prevented good acting. Hmm.
