As a new person, your mailbox for private messages isn't very big. You need to, on occasion, delete received and sent messages. If your mailbox is full, any new messages that people try to send you will be blocked until you clear some space.

As you have more posts under your name, you will get to have a larger mailbox (storing more messages).

I don't know when any of the mailbox changes happen, though.
