It was a beautiful day, a great day to be able to do absolutely nothing but enjoy being outside. The light breeze licked playfully at her skirt, cooling her crossed bare legs. Warm enough for halter top, cool enough to enjoy hot tea outside--the perfect spring day.
This was her favourite haunt, the friendliest place on earth, where everybody knows your name, you know? Best breakfast in town, and open 'til the wee hours, every single night.
It was here that she'd met him, one year ago to this very day. Her book lay open, but her eyes were unfocused, as her thoughts wandered...
It had been late, she'd been out with friends, and after a most enjoyable evening of theatre, most of the group had ended up here. She'd ordered a martini, wet and dirty, and she swayed back and forth in rhythm with the band playing in the back.
He'd approached her then, dark hair, laughing eyes, infectious smile, friendly, flirtatious...intriguing. They'd talked, they'd danced, and bought each other drinks, as he slowly won her over. They'd moved outside to the back deck, vacant at that hour of the morning, and under the branches of the massive old oak tree, they'd kissed like two hormone-driven teenagers, until she was breathless and her lips were sore. Smiling, he'd pulled her into the shadows, pushed her skirt up, and her panties down...
He never asked her name, she never asked his.
She laughed to herself, the heat of her face bringing her back to the present.
Over the last 12 months he'd show up, various places, always convenient times. The next encounter had been at the theatre, when he'd coaxed her, giggling, into the "cry room", then the night at the park, and ohhh, the time at the library...
She closed her eyes, enjoying the tingles dancing on her skin. Her "no-tell lover"...
On cue, perhaps summond by her idle dreaming, she felt a hand gently lift her hair from her neck, and she felt his lips, his teeth gently grazing her skin...
