As many of you know I'm a wildlife carer in Australia. Last week I recieved a baby Greater Glider.....he's just so cute I wanted to share his picture with you all.

BTW his name is 'Chi'...which I believe is Chinese for 'life force'. Greater Gliders are a vunerable species.

What a cute critter. :) I haven't seen this species before but it looks as if it is related to the possum family?

He's actually a Glider..he has a membrane attached to his front elbows and his back ankles so what they do it jump and open their legs which allows them to glide from tree to tree...its not flying.

They only eat Gum leaves (like a Koala).....although this little fella is drinking bottles of special formula while he is so young.

What a cutie. How old is he? Will he get very big?

Can I come and live you and take care of animals...i don't need much room...

He's approx 4 months old....and will eventually grow to around a kilo...he weighs 112 grams now. I'll have to find a converter and let you know how heavy that is in your measurments. I'll release him in about 7-8 months.

He's a little angel, very curious and not really a lot of trouble not like my Joeys and other possums.

will he go back to the wild and make it on his own now?

Yes he will, all my animals get released eventually - its illegal to keep them as pets here. But don't worry I don't just shove him out there without taking steps first to make sure he has the survival skills to make it on his own. He will be dehumaised first...weaned off me in othe words! He will also get support feeding where he is released for as long as he wants it.

Here is another of my babies, a Ringtail possum baby, her name is Ashley.

By the way, all of my 'babies' are orphaned or injured in some way.

So Chi is just under 4 ounces and he won't grow to much over two pounds. Why the name 'Glider'? Does he jump from trees?

Ashley's pretty cute too. Lucky you are to enjoy a job that let's you spend time with cuddly animals instead of just humans!
