Had a quick look last night - mess everywhere.
I honestly don't know how people can live like that.... there are unwashed dishes all over the place, both the toilets are blocked and filthy, food out spoiling and stinking the place up.... and these people had kids in that mess! Including a baby still in nappies (there are dirty diapers thrown all about the house and yard).

These tenants will be put onto the Bad Tenant Register, which will make it almost impossible for them to rent again.

Sadly, fucking up someone's pristine rental property does not carry the death penalty.
I estimate the damage they've done at around $20,000. And that was just having a quick look last night. I'll be taking pix today for evidence.

They paid their rent on time every month, and were barely seen or heard.

Turns out they were using the apartment as a pot growing operation.

Mold everywhere from the excessive humidity.

Some people are like that with property they don't own.

I had to clean up when one of my friends moved house. His wife was and is very houseproud. They were moving out of their first marital home to a larger house because the second child was due within the month.

The new house was the only suitable one for sale in the right place at a cost they could afford. It had been rented to tenants who were moving out. My friends didn't look to closely at the state of the property, apart from the structure.

My friend and I had hired a truck to move by ourselves. As was common at the time, there was a delay in the transfer of documentation and instead of moving at 12 noon, we couldn't start until 6pm. While the wife stayed in the old house, making sure that it was sparkling clean for the newly-weds moving in after their honeymoon, we set off with the first load of furniture.

We found used diapers in two bedrooms in piles a couple of feet high. There were bluebottles swarming around the toilets which were badly stained and one was blocked. Where the cooker had been in the kitchen, there were inches of congealed grease stuck to the wall...

I went to the late night shop and bought rubber gloves, black rubbish sacks and cleaning materials. I scooped up all the diapers into the black sacks and then ripped up the carpets which were crawling with maggots and dropped everything behind the garage, out of sight.

The previous tenants had taken every light bulb, so I had to buy some. I bought low-wattage ones, not by design, but because that was all the shop had in stock. By their dim illumination I tried to clean the kitchen, the bathroom and one bedroom before my friend's wife arrived. Luckily for us, she was too tired from her own cleaning to notice that the new house was still filthy in most rooms.

I slept in the van because only the one bedroom was bug-free.

Before she got up in the morning I loaded the black sacks and the rotten carpets in the van and took them to the dump.

It took her three months to get that house to the pristine state she had left her own in.

My dad used to work maintenance at an apartment complex when we lived in a bigger City, the conditions some of those apartments were in... It kind of made him a germophobe.

We're back. Cleaned all the crap that was making the house smell, just threw everything into tuna bags (huge, strong plastic bags) and piled it out the back to be taken to the tip.
Also took all the furniture out and left it on the back patio.
Every single thing in that house was filthy.... the beds aren't fit for dogs, let alone people!
I have pix, but I still need to resize them, and now I have to go out for a while so I'll do a few choice ones when I get home.

I had a renter once that left the house in pristine condition, it was the yard that went to shit. She had two big malamutes and never once in a year cleaned up their poop. She'd just change trees they were tied to. Mountains and mountains of dog crap. Then they tried to burn a small boat and bed springs in a bonfire in the front yard. It was just charred. The bed springs went to the dump but the boat had to be cut into pieces to haul it away. Even her mother called me all irate because I wouldn't refund her the deposit.

Must not be too bad if it only took two hours.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough.... We didn't clean the house - all we did was move all the junk and old, broken furniture out so the cleaners could come in and do their thing without having to do all this first.
It took 4 people two hours to clean the stuff out, and that's not counting the night before when 2 of us went down and got all the food and mouldy clothing out (to stop the smell). That took us both 2 hours as well.
