My neighbors

Last night a younger gent I know had a minor problem with his dehumidifier.

Somehow, probably from vibration, the two screws holding the control panel to the top section backed out and the control panel fell into the case and was hanging by the wires.

Well he decided that because the machine wasn't running he didn't need to go to the trouble of disconnecting the machine from the power supply before pulling the control panel back out of the machine. Instead he reached in and gingerly grabbed the main switch with two fingers.

Unfortunately this left his other fingers hanging out in the air. Also unfortunately just as he grabbed the switch the machine turned on. Of course the first thing that happens when the dehumidifier turns on is a good sized high speed fan turns on.

By the time this young gent had enough time to react three fan blades moving at an impressive speed had impacted the end/tip of his ring finger leaving three short but nicely deep slashes in his finger tip. (One went down to the bone.)

The cuts were of course cleaned out with copious amounts of running water and Hydrogen Peroxide before being cleaned out even more with rubbing alcohol. They were then treated with large amounts of topical Anti-Biotics then Steri Stripped closed before being dressed. (Yes he should have gone for a couple of stitches but he refused.) His language as the cuts were cleaned out was impressive to say the least.

Oh and the person who did this painfully educational yet more than slightly amusing Oops was none other than myself. (Yes I should have known better and yes I can laugh at myself even when I do something stupid.)

Were there enough curse words in English or did you have to sprinkle it with German to really express your feelings?

(Oww for your hand; hope it's getting better!)

It was a healthy mix of both German and English with a nice addition of Spanish thrown in. (Plus some that sounded Polish but I never did learn Polish.)

The finger will heal, no signs of infection. (Now if I could just keep from banging it into every hard surface I pass I would be much happier.)

The cats have come out of hiding and Magi won't leave my hand alone. If I sit own for any length of time he hops into my lap and grabs my hand before pulling it to him and snuggling around it. He doesn't try to lick it or anything like that he just snuggles around it keeping it still.

What a sweet kitty! I hope you heal up okay! I did one of those idiot moves the other day and have got a felion babysitter of my own.

Our heater has died so we've been a nice space heater. It does have a metal screen though. We've watched the kitties around it; they're content to bask about a foot away. Even though it's safe the ceramic tile floor (which tends not to burn) and turns off automatically if it tips over (hello? Klutz here!) I tried to save it when my roomate hit the back of it when he was taking the trash out. It started to tip. I was standing nearby and put my foot/leg out to catch it. :(

I now have a perfect replica of the screen branded on the back of my calf. It's not a serious burn though it looks fierce. Actually, it looks kind of cool in an "I can't believe I did that!" sort of way. Anyhoo, if I'm sitting down, Mulberry is sitting on that foot. If I'm laying on the sofa or in bed, she's stretched out along that leg. And if anyone tries to touch it, she mews at them. It's awfully cute.

Sorry about your hand Cat.

I used to work in an Italian restaurant. On Sunday mornings I always opened up by myself. I'd heat up the tomato sauce and soups and all in big metal pots with metal handles on a gas stove with high flames.

When bringing the sauce and soups over to the steam table I always use the thick potholders to hold the handles then I put the empty pots onto a table to cool down while I continue setting up.

One day I didn't let the pots cool down enough before taking them to the sink to wash, and when I grabbed an empty one without a potholder it burnt the hell out of my hand. I needed to get ice on my hand but then I thought "why make two trips when the sink was on the way to the ice?"

So I grab the pot again with my other hand and burn the hell out of that one too.

D'oh!

This story has little to do with common sense (or lack thereof) and more to do with the stupidity of youth, but I heard it last night and it made me laugh so I thought I'd tell it here for your amusement.

Hubby used to be in a military based youth organisation and they wore berets with beret badges. One of the cadets thought it would be funny to place his beret, badge down, on the radiator, then pick it up and press it into his mate's cheek. The next day the mate got an awful lot of teasing from his friends at school for turning up with the organisations logo branded into his cheek.
"We knew you were into it, but we didn't know you were *that* hardcore" and other comments of that ilk.

I just wonder if he gets a faint pattern appearing each time he gets a suntan! lol

Apologies for the slight threadjack
