Shallow Grave (really morbid, funny and suspenseful)

The Matchmaker (Janine Garafalo sp?)--cute comedy set in Ireland.

The Governess (Minnie Driver, Jonathan Rhys Meyers)

Waking Ned Divine-- hilarious

Cube- an Aussie movie I think, extremely intense

The Pillow Book-- you'll either love it or hate it

The Color Purple (wow)

The Hunger-- certainly one of the better vampire flicks ever made

Nell (Liam neeson, Jodie Foster)

Moulin Rouge

Velvet Goldmine--another love it or hate it movie




MOVIES I HATE:

The Musketeer-- Oh my god this was a bad movie.

Attention Shoppers-- Obscure but still easy found in vid stores. THE WORST FILM I HAVE EVER SEEN.

There are others but I think my brain has blocked them.

I'm just getting into movies too; my iBook has a DVD player, so I can finally rent movies! It's the first time I have ever had a device for watching films, and I usually forget that it's there (because I am not in the habit of watching) but I would like to catch up on some of the best ones. I did see American Beauty, and loved it. Thanks for the recommendations!

I'll have to think about this one! So many good movies are listed and there are so many of my own that I watch over and over again. Of course, it goes without saying I am a big fan of John Stagliano's "BUTTMAN" series, but they don't quite fit in with all of these.
