My monitor just died.

Weirdest thing. I'm typing away, taking the size, clarity and brightness of my monitor for granted, and it just goes *blink*... darkness.

It won't turn back on... it's completely dead. I stole the monitor from the kids' computer, but it's not the same. It's tiny, slightly blurry, and at it's brightest setting, it's not remotely bright.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap monitor? Really cheap. Really really cheap.

Look around at your local thrift shops--you can find anything and everything at those places! One of the ones in town always has at least 3 or 4 computers hooked up so you can see the quality of the monitors, and the whole setup is sometimes only $100 or so.

....and I love the avi--cute!

You might be able to get a refurbished one cheap. You could shop the internet- like www.pricewatch.com or inquire some of your local computer repair shops.

Riff is right - pricewatch is the best place to check- $19 inch monitors are way down in price - and 17 inch monitors are dirt cheap.

yes weird...exact same thing happened to me yesterday...got a nasty buzzing and then a zap! I stole the kids monitor too...hehe

PC World regularly updates their listing of their top 10 products in each category.

They're #1 monitor right now is the ViewSonic GS790 - $285 from Best Buy.

The cheapest one on the list is $215 and its actually rated #2 - also from Best Buy - its the Optiquest Q95.

[Is there a university near you. They have surplus property sales and usually have lots of computer stuff because their colleges and departments are continually upgrading computers. My wife bought a 15 inch monitor for $25 to use in the office of an english horse riding club my daughter particates in.

17 inch monitors - http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,81992,pg,2,00.asp - the cheapest one on the list is #9 at $159. The KDS XF-7i - the others are so close in price to the 19inch monitors that you might as well just get a 19 inch.
