[1] Promise heaven for belief.

Yeah well maybe, but promise of heaven is more of accpeting something that was done for you but I'll give you that one

[2] Threaten eternal punishment in hell for disbelief.

Actually hell isn't a matter of belief or disbelief or doing or not doing something it is more of a fact that we screwed up in Adam but If you want it I guss I'll give you that one too.

[3] Boost the believers' egos by telling them they are 'chosen' or superior to believers in false memes.

Nope, can't give you this one, most if following properly would rather feel humble and meek rather that superior knowing that it by grace alone that provides a way

[4] Disable the faculties of disbelief ('immune response') by claiming that faith is superior to reason.

Much like science there eh! even DCL said that science has changed to a new "nothing exploded into a big bang.

[5] Establish itself as the One True Meme, usually by some sort of holy book containing a circular self-referential argument such as:

X is the one true meme. We know X is the one true meme because The Source of Universal Truth has approved X. We know The Source of Universal Truth has approved X, because X contains statements which say so. We know what X says is true because X is the one true meme.

Once it has parasitised the mind of its host, a meme needs to propagate itself. A successful meme will contain instructions for some or all of the following:

Yeah, nothing like teaching theories and lies in the school system and calling them unverifiable truths.

Just ask Lavander its bigoted to also offer water to your companion when walking in the dessert with a friend.

[6] Holy war - convert or kill all unbelievers .

Nope, can't give you this one when the bible is studied properly.Go once offer, if they refuse knock the dust off your shoes and leave them how they wish to leave and respect thier choices.

[7] Intimidation and terrorism - threaten and discriminate against unbelievers.

Nope, can't really give you this one either when the bible is studied properly. Love the sinner hate the sin.

[8] Enforced social isolation or even death to apostates. (An apostate is a host which has cured itself of a meme-infection. Apostasy within the community of believers is especially dangerous to the meme because it might encourage meme-resistance in others).

Nope, can't really give you this one either see number 6, everyone is free to make thier own choices, and interact with whomever they like.

[9] Fecundism - encourage true believers to breed faster than believers in false memes.

Nope, sorry can't give this one either, when studied properly the bible actually discourages foolish breeding activities, a somewhat live within your means teaching.

[10] Censorship - prevent rival memes from reaching potential hosts (a theological doctrine known as 'Error has no rights').

Nope sorry can't give this one either, the bible and God merely asks that if your going to accept it and believe it that you would not keep fellowship with what you know is wrong, but God accepts that we are human and its by grace that we remain.

[11] Misinformation - spread lies about rival memes. Demonise them - the bigger the lies the more likely they are to be believed.

Nope, Can't give you this one, even though some like to try to spread misunformation. But, when there is actuall information about others being spread its hard to tell anymore becuase of unscrupulous men who will use any means to gain power.

Get the shovv-el pa! We're diggin fer posts.

No Todd, Hell isn't 'more of a fact'. Hell is nothing like a fact, that's why they call it faith.

Change 'if following properly' to 'if following in the Todd approved way'. Everyone who is Christian believes that other gods are false, the Bible itself is just one big wallety whoop about how Jews or Christians are god's chosen people.

Todd, you can't deny something by saying, 'but science does it too!' you might as well say, 'but the Republicans do it too!' or 'but the Irish do it too!'

You're right Todd. God never tells anyone one in the bible to start a holy war, when he tells people to go out and slaughter tribe such and such - killin' the men, raping the virgin women, and salting the earth he doesn't want us to start a holy war - why no, god's down for some good old fashioned ethnic cleanzin'.

And what's this little jewel? God never tells us to hate the sinner? You're so right, he wants us to follow his example and love them. Why, raining fire and turning people to salt is just his way of saying, "I'm OK. You're OK". People following his lead by burning and stoning sinners are still in the clear as long as they do it with love in their heart.

Wow, what a riveting religious debate. EDGE OF MY SEAT!

I've never seen anything in the Bible to suggest that god is anything but an asshole. Having sex with a virgin to have a kid and letting people kill said kid aren't the marks of a great father. I have no problem with Jesus; he did very well considering his background and the fact that he lived his whole life as the spiritual equivalent of whatever it is in my McDonald's Happy Meal. Cause, you know, a god that create light by saying "Let there be light." couldn't possibly just say, "I forgive you." No, no, much better to have yet another person day in his name.

I'm so tired of your friends in the desert metaphor. You might be in a desert but I'm not - don't piss in your hand and tell me it's water.

As I said 'proper' not todd aprroved study.

Study that includes underserstanding covenants, and dispensations and that the bible isn't a stepehen king book that you read from cover to cover expecting to find out the butler did it.

No Jeri ryan memorabillia for you then, I'll give it to someone else then. I lost my fetish for her and dumping the goods. watch ebay it will be going dirt cheap

That's it Todd. Sweep it under the rug and add a rolly-eyes emoticon, that makes everything better. Don't tell me what the 'proper' way to read the Bible is, burying one's head in the sand provides very poor reading light.

Todd:"Nope, can't give you this one, most if following properly would rather feel humble and meek rather that superior knowing that it by grace alone that provides a way"

A good Christian doesn't feel 'chosen'? Gee Todd, Deuteronomy 7:6 says:
For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be his people, his treasured possession.

Doesn't being The Lord's treasured possession mean others aren't so treasured?

Todd:
" Nope, can't give you this one when the bible is studied properly. Go once offer, if they refuse knock the dust off your shoes and leave them how they wish to leave and respect thier choices."

Unbelievers aren't killed for their disbelief? What about Ezekiel 6:

"O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign LORD . This is what the Sovereign LORD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys: I am about to bring a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places. Your altars will be demolished and your incense altars will be smashed; and I will slay your people in front of your idols. I will lay the dead bodies of the Israelites in front of their idols, and I will scatter your bones around your altars, Wherever you live, the towns will be laid waste and the high places demolished, so that your altars will be laid waste and devastated, your idols smashed and ruined, your incense altars broken down, and what you have made wiped out. Your people will fall slain among you, and you will know that I am the LORD" .

Nope, no ethnic cleansing here, Zephaniah 2:8 -

"I have heard the insults of Moab
and the taunts of the Ammonites,
who insulted my people
and made threats against their land.
Therefore, as surely as I live,"
declares the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel,
"surely Moab will become like Sodom,
the Ammonites like Gomorrah-
a place of weeds and salt pits,
a wasteland forever.
The remnant of my people will plunder them;
the survivors of my nation will inherit their land."

Numbers 31. Moses shows us how a god fearing man takes "the Lord's Vengeance"

Killing all the men.
Capturing all the women and children.
Taking all the herds, flocks, and goods as plunder.
Burning down all the towns.

Wait, no. He tells us to " Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."

Gee, Todd. Where did you go?

The majority of this is cut and pasted, I thought you'd enjoy it.

*bump*

Waiting for Todd to tell me the proper way to read these passages.

Great copy and paste Job, but lets see who the old Testsament was Primarily written for. The christians who hadn't yet even existed or the Jewish Race.

Oh my it appears we have a conflict of interest here

And when Might it have taken place???

Dispensation of Innocence - Naked no problem- curses and death

Dispensation of Concience - Naked and shame - flood

Dispensation of Civil Government - Everybody did what was right in his own eyes - forced scattering

Dispensation of Patriarchil Rule - Stayed and obeyed = prosperity - bondage anmd wandering

Dispensation of Mosaic - Ten Commandments - captivity

Dispensation of GRace - believe and walk in christ - death and lose of reward

Dispensation of Millenium - God's earthly rule - great white throne & death

Primary Characteristics of a dispensations:
1 - the different governing relationship with the world into which God enters in each economy
2 - the resulting responsibility on mankind in each of these different relationships.

Distinguishing characteristics:
1 - a change in God's governmental relationship with man {though a dispensation does not have to be composed of completely new features}
2 - a resultant change in man's responsibility
3 - corresponding revelation neccessary to effect the change{which is new and is a stage in the progress of revelation through the bible}

Last time I checked the Bible contained both the old and the new testament. You're telling me that for a couple of thousand years God acted this way, then one morning he woke up, realized he was wrong and tried to make amends?

Never said:

Your like talking to me when I was an atheist.

Changes in dispensation shere brought on when Man learned the lesson that God was tring to teach from Day one, rely on him.

Every time we fucked up, and he gave us opportunity to fix the mistake and we fucked up again, so he choose a different method and we tried it and we fucked up again.

I suppose you would of porefered when we we first fucked up God would just go, "oh thats alright creation, i'll forget about this time and we can start or over" or do you prefer the standard fall back "ah it doesn't matter what you do you don't need to have consequences to be responsible for your own actions"

bereak a rule its ok, we will look over that, break a few more, look past it, break a bunch more, we'll just push them to the side and ignore them.
