A few months ago, my local top-40 radio station announced during commercial time that they were in the market for a new DJ. But they wanted someone from the general public to do it. Radio experience not necessary, but preferred.
So, I went back to my college radio station, asked to borrow a booth so I could cut a demo tape, did, decked out my résumé all nice, enclosed it, hand-delivered it to the station wearing my best suit, and sat back and waited for the phone call. I figured with over 80 hours of radio experience, a degree from a prominent (and local) university, and a tape so they could listen for themselves, I would be a shoo-in.
They never called. They never e-mailed. They didn't do shit. After about a month, I called someone at the station, and he told me they decided not to hire someone. Just like that. No notice. Just a "Thanks, but no thanks."
They did hire someone, just not from the area (so far as I know). And he was *terrible*! The first time I heard him, he followed up the song he played by saying what it was and who did it, as DJ's often do. Here was his wrapup. If you follow popular music at all, this will grate you: "And that was 'Mrs. Jackson' by The Outcasts."
Ugh. I really haven't listened to them since. Bastards.

THe same local station has this DJ,(different 1,)and, when, she plays a song says, "THis is "so & so, with "so & so" but, it's a COMPLETELY differnt song, by a COMPLETELY different artist.). It happens to her at LEAST 90% of the time,(when I'm listening, anyway.)
