So that's about it. For all of you nurses you can play with the info.

Enlarged liver and spleen.
High liver enzymes.
Very low blood platelets.
Low thyroid.

Everything else was normal. I was drinking one night a week, no drinking anymore. Blah!

You could always take a vacation in rural Brazil, get kidnapped and have your liver and kidneys harvested. Trailer.

Wow. I'm so sorry to hear this.

*HUGS and HUGS*

That's shocking and scary. Livers are known to regenerate themselves though. So I hear.

Fury :rose:

Was the doctor going to test for hemochromatosis?
You didn't mention an elevated iron level but the other symptoms are consistent with the disease.

He has a 'fatty liver', which means that he gets fat deposits in his liver. It's genetic.

I don't know you, but I wish you the best. Speaking as a transplant patient I can tell you it will be tough. You have to be extremely careful around others, you're diet is restricted, you're on pills for the rest of your life and you have to be careful around animals. You'll be in my thoughts. Take care.

The liver is an AMAZING organ. You can transplant 1/2 a liver into a patient and within 6 months it will grow into a whole organ. Depending on what kind of liver disease (genetic or alcohol related) it can heal itself...and in turn assist in healing the other damaged parts of the body by filtering out the remaining toxins. It all depends on the cause...self inflicted or genetics.

Ouch. I'm sorry. Not fun at all. And you are a very fun-loving person. :(

Betticus I am sorry to hear of this diagnosis . I tend to lean towards potential positive outcomes where the liver is involved. Wishing you the best .

The liver really IS an amazing organ and most always regenreates. Be kind to it and it will recover. In the mean time play as though your ass were on fire and try not tnink on the dark side of the moon.

Like Cinnamon and Tuomas, I'd ask your doc about hemachromatosis if they're not testing for it already (and if they aren't, I might think about looking for a new doctor). Your symptoms do fit pretty well with that, and it's one of the most common genetic disorders, especially among Caucasians. And the main form of treatment is taking iron out of the blood via bleeding.

I'm pretty new around here, but still - I wish you the best of luck! I've really enjoyed reading your posts so far.

I second what tzigane said (about being new, but enjoying your posts to date). You will be in my prayers and thoughts. Best of luck fixing it! :) (((hugs)))
