My First Trolls! I think...

I believe congrats are in order, though it's so weird I'm not sure what to make of it.

Published my first two non-erotic essays in here; they came on line this morning. I am getting absolutely bizarre comments on the Frankenstein essay, which has to do with the theme of the lost infant as it's reflected in Mary Shelley's work. The comments are just so strange I have no idea what to make of them. Does this count as trolls, in which case I will make a celebratory cake and count myself as truly initiated, or is it just basic schizophrenia or something? What constitutes an actual troll?

Just tell me if I can have my cake. And eat it too.

I read the Frankenstein comments.

I would say #2 and #3 are by the same person. I suspect they are mentally disturbed judging from the constant undertone of Catholicism in both of them. Why he gave you a perfect score and then a zero score, I have no idea.

I'm not sure I would characterize them as a troll as the comments to seem to be germane to the essay rather than a blind, raving attack against your person and your children.

Still, I do wonder at their perspective. It's…odd.

Kinda freaky indeed. It's a subject that gets pretty intense for people. Glad to know I'm not alone in being a bit disconcerted.

So I guess no cake for me. If not trolls, then psychos. Is there celebratory pastry for that?

to save everyone trouble, I'm going to paste them into here. Here are the 3 so far.

and btw. Psychotherapist? wow...

I have now read all of your submissions, most are harmless this is not and neither are you ,I suspected i was right the first time ,i think you are sick very very sick to make such a story of a stillborne child. You have considerable writing skills use them to give pleasure not pain. The story content is so very true but read St Francis, prayer. This site is for erotica not to inflict pain on those that have suffered enough.

I have read this many many times, what on earth is the matter? Ihope this is not a sick joke, because if it is it will explode in your face.If it is not for Gods sake ,yes i said God sort yourself out.Whatever you do look at the thoughts of St Paul of the Cross.Ihave given you maximum score because only a disturbed mind could write such a thing.

Looks to me like no.3 is a troll, no.2 is a bible basher, and the top slot goes to a disturbed psychotherapist.

Then Ken :)

Feedback slut that I am, I can't help being pleased that at least it's getting some attention.

It's one I'm proud of. Still not sure whether or not to make the cake though...

I dunno, those comments were at least based on the story, rather than seemingly random personal attacks. No cake for you!(Sorry--feeling  )

That's okay. They say hunger makes the best sauce. In similar terms, perhaps anticipation makes the best frosting.

My Guess:

Number 1 was a bit drunk and had a miscarriage or a stillborn, may a twin whose sibling was stillborn. Unresolved loss at a minimum.

2 and 3 may be the same separated by a few drinks. But I don't think 3 is a true toll, it's just not hostile enough.

Stirring readers emotions, positive or negative, is always worthy.

I don't think any of them were trolls. The comments were more or less germane to the story, even if they did reflect personal predjudice or opinion.

Most trolls don't leave comments. they just drop their one-bombs and scram. The way to tell if they have struck is to watch your score and clock the changes. For instance: A score of 4.50 after ten votes changes to a score of 4.18 after the eleventh vote. A quick calculation shows that the first ten votes totaled 45 points and the next one (11 X 4.18 = 46) shows an increase of one point. :( Voila! You have been trolled. Go ahead and eat your cake. :p

Some must explain to you the Troll Scale

1. Obnoxious comments
2. Comments obviously based on never having read the story
3. Comments made by the marginally insane
4. Comments made by the certifiably insane
5. Personal attacks
6. WTF??

Welcum to the club ;)

I sensed it, but you've clarified it. Thanks. :D :p

These are trolls who leave comments. Most of them who annoy me don't; they just drop their one-bombs and give no reason.

Looks like I'm scoring pretty high so far. I'll compromise - I won't make the cake yet, but I am going to dive heartily into a box of raspberry bismarcks and a big ol' 5-shot mocha.

All the input is much appreciated - the comments have started to get a teency bit saner now, at least for the most part. I really never expected this essay to get so much attention, but obviously it touches a pretty deep nerve. I suppose that makes sense.

wow, man,

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, nor am I trying to provide sunlight to your wake, or whatever the opposite would be. However, this is what I think of as being a troll:

My newest story posted this morning. The first six votes it had accumulated averaged 4.83, which would mean four votes of five and one of four. :) I have no complaints about that. I looked at the score just now, and there are now seven votes with an average score of 4.29. :( A quick calculation shows me the last vote was a one. There was no PC or email or other explanation for the one-bomb. The person who cast it is a person I would define as a troll

Seems the trolls are getting more prevalent. My first few stories generally garnered 4s with a few 5s for ego boosting.
Now I get at least one 1 in the first 10 votes, always.

I think that's just one very hard working troll, starkerrs. They come on early in the morning and go down the list of news stories and poems and give them a one bomb.

Too bad he can't put that dedication to good use.

Maybe Ebeneezer has been resurrected. :(

Me too, sometimes 2 ones, though a few days later they are gone with the Troll-Sweeper-O-Matic.

I always get at least one one-bomb in the first ten votes. Sometimes a couple. These are the sneaky ones that don't come with PC's. They don't always get swept, either.

No, they don't.
There's an arse in Celebrities who periodically 1 bombs all stories above his to boost his ratings. I had one swept and it was back again within hours. It's still there two months later.

Yeah, I've been doing some interesting math on my scores too. I didn't know of this phenomenon when I posted my first story and was SOOO excited to see my score doing so well. I was announcing my rankings and such to my friends, who politely listened as I enthused. Then all of a sudden my score plummeted, with no feedback. I thought it was personal, that someone out there had totally hated my work.

I've taking scoring off a lot of my stuff. I just can't make myself care about it anymore; it's arbitrary enough that I don't want to set myself up for disappointment.

Still don't know whether or not to make my cake, but the bismarcks are a nice choice anyway. Why not be celebratory for no good reason at all?

so grateful for all the input, folks. thank you again.

Actually, it's generally accepted that if and when you reach the top of a category with a new story, within hours you will be shot down, especially if you have an average score of 5.0 at the time. That and an E and a W are sure troll bait. It might be the person who was just dropped to second place or it might be a fan of that person or it might be just some unmotivated asshole.

So you're saying that every Catholic artist is mentally disturbed?

'Cause I've read some serious undertone in most of our work.

Or are you saying all Catholics are mentally disturbed?

I need to lodge a complaint... that sounds like religious discrimination to me. Oh wait, I think I'm mentally disturbed... never mind.
