My First Novel

My first novel took me 7 years to write. I traveled a lot for work when I started it so I had many hours alone in hotels writing it. Some us have silly regimens for writing, I am no different. I found that writing naked with an aching erection inspired me to produce narrative that was sexy, explicit and arousing. Since 90% of the story line was inspired by my own experience describing sex scenes and finding and describing emotions, non sexy insights and an engaging story line was easy.

The story line is that of a man in his late 50's (me) who discovers through prostate orgasm that his anus has become a sex organ. The process of "rewiring" that accompanied this change opens the door to his second coming of age. His sexuality twists in surprising directions, his libido amps to adolescent levels and his staid - responsible life gets turned on it's ear. He takes a lover at home who is almost half his age as he experiments with same sex trysts.

It all comes to a head with a work assignment that has him a thousand miles from home for 3 months. Under the safety of distance he experiences a spate of edgy and increasing daring sexual liaisons that push him farther and farther outside his comfort zone. Returning home after three months he tries to reconcile his new sexual reality with the old reality of his former life.

It is 130,000 words. Ii have rewritten it a dozen times from cover to cover over the last 7 years. I am wondering how I can get a lengthy work like this reviewed by a trusted 3rd party without publishing large scale?

Just for comparison, your work is running up to about 35 Lit screen pages. You didn't say where, or if, you plan to publish it here or even publish it at all. (That's not critical to answering your question, just wondering.)

I would suggest you take this request over to the Editors Forum. This one is primarily a place to post a link to a story you've posted here on Lit for people to go read, then come back and offer their feedback.

You gave a nice general overview, but I would suggest you also provide specifics in regard to the genre of sexual content (e.g. heterosexual, homosexual, and any unusual content that some might not enjoy working on, etc.)

If you do want to publish it here, I suggest you consider the multi-chapter option. Breaking it up into easy to read portions would likely attract more readers...if you've done you work well, there will be an audience (although maybe small for such a long read.) Another option might be, if possible, to break it up into stand alone stories for each major phase of your self-discovery (say 6 to 10 Lit pages each). If you plan on self-publishing it for purchase, obviously length isn't an issue.

Hope any of this helps, good luck and kudos for your dedication to producing such a work.

PS: There's also a new Editor function in your main Control Panel which lists available editors. Might give that a try too.
