When I was nine my dad introduced me to the artworks of Frank Frazetta. He was instantly my favorite artist ever from that moment on. For years I reproduced his pen and ink drawings; emulated and duplicated his style; and upon reading an interview with him I found that I should develop my own styles if I ever should want to be at all like him in even the most remote ways.

Last week a limited edition lithograph featuring a small piece of original art, the signature of and the hand numbering for the edition from Frank Frazetta, came up on e-Bay. I have no doubt that I got the better end of the deal financially. More importantly, however, I got a piece of Frazetta that I may never have had the opportunity to get otherwise.

So, who is your favorite artist or artists? Have you been as lucky as I consider myself to be? More so?

Edgar Degas First And Foremost...Next Would Have To Be Louis Royo, Then Sorayama...Then Bruce LaBruce And Ansel Adams;)

I love the works of Helmut Newton and Edward Weston for their ability to capture the erotic and sensual in beautiful ways, and Howard Schatz when he works with dancers and movement makes me absolutely spell bound.

Salvador Dali is my favorite artist, closely followed by MC Escher.

I have a thing for surrealism, not sure why, but I'm utterly fascinated by it and most of the painting and drawing I do has a surreal touch. I'm also often inspired by the works of either of those two.

My interest in Escher started when I read "Gödel Escher Bach". which, by the way, I recommend to everyone - great book. I've been to the Dali museum in Figueres (Spain), where I saw much of his work for the first time.

You've read teh eternal golden braid???? I knew I liked you!

If you like surrealism, give michael parkes a google search. He does great work in more of a Magritte style but with more of a whimsical feel.

Ok so add Parkes and Magritte to my list too. Especially Nostalgia by Magritte.

Difficult Question....

I would have to say Turner. The way that he was able to illustrate with color is absolutely unmatched.

Fleure :)

Um, for a long time it was Monet (what can I say? I love the Impressionists). But I've recently fallen in love with Gockel. As you can see from my av. :)

I'm writing a paper on him. Well, him and Church.

Boris Valejo (I think that is how its spelled...) I love his work.

I believe it's Vallejo. I like him, too. My favorite is Louis Royo, though. :)

Pardon any misspellings...

Michael Angelo - He did a mural that still exists in Milano that took my breath away when by accident I stumbled into the chapel that still displays it to this day.

Monet's full moon (not sure the name of it), it is breathtaking, and makes me think about simpler days, simpler times, and a simpler life.

I love his work, very unusual and unique style in his various works. If I ever become a famous author I want him to illustrate my stuff.
