My comments not appearing

My comments on stories are not showing up on the bottom of the story’s page and none of my comments show up in my comments tab in my profile. How long is the delay between posting and seeing the comments show up? Am I doing something wrong or am I just being impatient?

There appear to multiple time settings for comments, which seem to be author specific. My comments, for example, appear straight away, whereas you're not the first to report a delay. Don't know the reason why.

Sometimes my comments show quickly, other times it can take days. Maybe there is some review process they go through? IDK. As with most things here in Lit, patience is a virtue. If your comment never shows up, it's possible the author saw it and deleted it before you noticed it showing up.

I must admit, it was kinda annoying, when I tried to reply on my own story to some comments and it took days for it to appear :) I can understand strictly reviewing anonymous comments. I can even understand strictly reviewing comments made on someone else's story, but comments on your own, come on Lit, you can do better. :p

To clarify, the Comments aren't reviewed for content, they're screened to make sure there's no spam or html embedded in them. The screening was introduced four or five years ago, after the site was hit by repeated spam attacks that nearly ground the forums to a halt. The screening process has been progressively modified since then.

At one point it was a batch process with up to a 24 hour delay for everyone, now it seems to be some type of "trusted person" hierarchy, based presumably on an Account Holder's history. My comments, for example (I've been here coming up for ten years), either post immediately, or in an hour or two.

Good to know that bit of history, thank you.

I still maintain that it makes no sense to keep someone from posting on their own stories at least without delay, given stories go through a vetting process to begin with and it is reasonable to assume that if an account posted a story, they are not out there to spam their own stories with messages and even if they are, it would be contained and easily dealt with afterwards with a ban. :)

That, plus the inconsistency in posting times is confusing as hell. At one time, I thought my comment on a story was lost/rejected and totally gave up on it, only to realize two weeks later, that it still posted way after I stopped to care :) There is just no feedback about it when your post actually goes through, so it can happen, that you also miss any sort of reaction to it, that would warrant a follow up. Quite ironic given some of the recent discussion in the AH about people only posting (possibly critical) stuff but never bothering to follow up on it :)

Anyway, it is what it is, I hope it will change eventually, until then, I guess we just have to live with it. I figured I add my two cents, as I found this thread after being faced with the "review" screen once again and started looking for information on what governs how long you have to endure "cavity searches" before you can say "great job, thanks for sharing. :p

That's entirely logical, I agree, but who's to say you're not some new evil newbie who's out to spam every writer? You know, @CalebSpamMeister ;)
