Seriously.

The other night I came upon this article that I chose to read even as I snuck into bed at 2am. The headline was intriguing since I had read something similar in '4 arguments for the elimination of television' (honestly, I only got halfway through that book, reading it during the ice storm and then put it away once the power - and my tv - came back on :D )

Oh yes, the article.

It reported that light pollution could be the cause of depression and disease among humans, and so I read on.

The stories of night light ruining the view of the stars and all is well-documented, and disrupting the reproduction habits of frogs and causing turtles to become crushed by cars at night and so on was disheartening and depressing, but so are many similar stories that one reads every day.

Then I read about what it does to humans, especially night owls, the kind that prowl the BB of literotica, myself included. The conclusion reached by one researcher was that "there is mounting evidence to suggest that disruption of the melatonin rhythm (as a result of the absence of total darkness) may lead to chronic fatigue, depression, reproductive anomalies, and perhaps even cancer." Aaack!

And now I eye my clock radio with deep suspicion...

I'm off to buy some very heavy drapes for my bedroom and my clock radio is now relegated to the hallway... perhaps I should sleep in my bathroom!

For those who wish to know more, I cite my source from the Globe and Mail, "Blinded by the light", Saturday January 12-2002 - www.globeandmail.ca

That's interesting.

I can just imagine you lying in bed with your clock radio
whispering away,'Die,die,die', all night.

Well, not quite :D ... though I did crash at the respectable hour of midnight last night. Can't remember the last time I went to sleep so early...
