My cats have decided they just plain don't like the cold weather. It's down to 50 degrees here, which for those of us used to 80 degrees is cold.

My cats like to go out on the patio and watch the world go by. This evening they went out for a short while then came back in. I guess their paws were getting cold.

They go out and sit around for a bit before coming back in. The first thing they do when they come back in is jump in either my lap or my wifes lap. We can feel just how cold their paws are even through our jeans.

Once their paws warmed up back out they would go.

They did this for several revolutions until they seemed to get tired of it. Then they came in to stay. (I could finally close the damned slider all the way.)

Now we have one cats stretched as long as he can get on the back of the couch. Two curled up in front of the space heaters and the other three are at last check curled up on our bed.

When I go to bed tonight I wil be turning off the heaters, which means this trailer will cool off. Somehow I think I will wake up to find the bed inhabited by my wife, myself and six cats tomorrow morning.

It's goin' into the 30's tonight, my man. Brrrrrrrr.

Safe to say by dawn's early light, you'll be surrounded by pussy. ;)

(Oh, like you didn't set that one up?)

Well done.

Cat, we get the same thing on cool mornings.

Of course, it's been so cold lately (10 below wind chills) that we finally blocked off access to their outside enclosure. They're annoyed, but they're ok, and once it warms for good we'll open it back up.

They love the outside, even go out in the rain. My kitty Jonesey will go out, get drenched, them come back on my lap and expect me to towel him dry. Once accomplished, back out he'll go.

Silly things.

i saw on the animal planet that cats can be calmed by having a play room made for them inside carpet on the walls ledges to climb on toys hanging from the celing if you have the room it worked for them they were better for it

We have a similar play area - we call it the cat condo. It's one of those climbing things that has little cubbyholes and ladders and places to scratch, etc.

They do love it.

:)

We have one of those, too, except we call ours the living room. :catroar:

LOL!

That's why we have the condo.

It's difficult to maintain a conversation when the cats jump from sofa to sofa to chair to human to fireplace mantel . . .

:cathappy:

Well, that is what you're there for, isn't it? To keep kitty paws warm and to be a nice heater through the cold night :cathappy:

Why do you call them nutcases? To me they sound eminently sane.

I was going to say the exact same thing!
Currently the two heffalumps are killing each other, three moths and the kids in the loungeroom. The older more sedate feline members of the family have hidden thmselves in various favourite sleeping spots around the house.

Unlike dogs you never 'own' a cat, you act as hotel manager.

Tigger, my young tricolor Maine Coon, spent last night on the bed curled up and more effective than condoms or contraceptive pills. Then, after jumping in snow for the first time, left muddy paws all over the ironing I had just finished.

Aren't tarantulas less trouble?

I very nearly shot soda through my nose with that.

I'm going to become the proud owner of two cats this afternoon, and I suspect I'll be saying the same thing very shortly.

You may think you will be the proud owner. :) Actually, you are more likely to be the possession of two cats. :D

So very true. I should have said: Two cats will be owning my townhouse starting this afternoon. ;) It would have been more on point, don't you think?

Yes, but I am sure they will allow you to stay there. After all, they will need somebody to wait on them. ;)

Until such time as they learn to open the fridge, anyway.

I was awoken by a Burmese head strop of my nose this morning. I'm still getting rid of the extra fur.

There's more to it than just opening the fridge. There's opening cans of food and chasing away dogs and providing a warm lap and ear scratches and tummy rubs and cleaning out the litter box and a lot of things cats allow their people to do for them. :)

If it weren't for kitties, humans would have way too much time on their hands.

A dog says I have someone who feeds me, pets me and gives me shelter on a cold evening. He must be God.

A cat says I have someone who feeds me, pets me and gives me shelter on a cold evening. I must be God.

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.

I have often heard or read that cats are not affectionate. As a long-time cat companion, I know that is not true. Kitties are affectionate, but on their terms, when they feel like it and only if the person has earned it.

There are very few sounds more pleasant that kitties purring when I am petting or scratching them. :) The only one I know of offhand is a woman making a similar sound under similar circumstances. :p

I just ended up coming home with the cutest kitten in the world (to me anyway)...after I swore I didn't want a kitten, only an adult cat.

All of her littermates got adopted today and she was all alone and I felt so bad. And of course now my girlfriend wants to get the one SHE fell in love with on Tuesday. That shelter was closed today or we'd have them both now.

We are simply grateful that our two cats (a Burmese and a Siamese) still allow us to live in the house.

We have 4 cats, and at any given time, 1 is trying to jump in the lap of whoever is on the computer and one is lying on the couch (preferably on top of someone on it)...

They don't have much problem with the cold however, as evidenced by the oldest, who got out one night and spent the entire night under the porch in temperature in the teens...I had to crawl in under (after work) to pull her out...
