It seems she has no choice but to marry her boyfriend.

Life is unfair for female.

Given the male to female ratio there, she might choose from a dozen guys who'd volunteer to be the "father" if only to have some steady butt for the rest of their lives.
Unless said sister-in-law is a real dog.

The guy looks a bit less intelligent... but I gave no comments to my sister-in-law, since we are not there to discuss whether or not he is a suitable man to marry, just almost no choice.

Why does she have to marry him? Is that a law in China or something? For some reason I thought abortions were easier to get in China- don't know why I thought that- and Americans are adopting up Chinese babies left and right.

Yes, she can have abortion if she likes but if she doesn't marry him, she will devalued since she already got pregnant. The best way is to marry him.

What is she wants to kick him to the curb later - divorce?
How does that work in China?

I mean if she didn't get pregnant, she probably finds another boyfriend some time later, but now she has to make decision and marrying him seems the best choice. She has more options if she is not pregnant.

By the way, although there is one child policy in China, but a lot of people still have more than one child (I have 2, for example). The policy is strict to those people working with the government or SOEs.

What do you mean by this? Devalued by whom?

Will be devalued...

You know, Chinese men prefer to marry virgins, women who lost virginities are devalued to some point, women who had abortions are devalued even worse.

Ah, old school.

My advice would be, screw it, have the abortion (unless she's personally against that sort of thing), and in a year or two, head to Uni or something. Preferrably far away from home. Chances are, that among half a billion Chinese men, there's at least one good one without a stick up his ass.

Unless the not-so-intelligent boyfriend raped her, or forced his semen into her vagina in some evil manner beyond her control, she has already made a choice, a choice full of opportunity for rewards or consequences.
She made this choice knowing that the possible outcome would be bun in the oven, and instant devaluation in some kind of messed-up societal marriage-material marketplace should she not wed the sperm donor.

My daughter got pregnant at 16. Now at 17 she is a Mum.
She is still with the father of her child - they are making the best of things.
In saying that, I should note that my daughter is surprising me with how awesomely well she has taken to being a mother.... and she is still going to school, her baby is thriving, and her relationship is doing just fine.
Not everything ends badly....

Great story - good to hear.
All too often you only hear about the bad situations, where mom, dad, or both are messed up, and the one caught on the shiity end of the stick is the baby.
You see it sensationalized on TV all the time.
Best to the young family WQ.

Good to know that...

Now her parents knew it and asked her to dump her boyfriend and have a abortion.

She is kind of in a dilemma.

Thirty, is she or her family religious??

No... only few of Chinese have religious.

Her boyfriend's hometown is far away from hers, her parents like her to marry a man nearby their hometown. Also they think she is too young to be a mom.

In a land of half a billion men would she be devalued that much? Would she have to settle for a man lesser than this one?

Maybe she can find a better man, but for that man, she will be no longer "original"... i know it's hard for you guys to understand, but it's a part of Chinese culture.

We think virgins are pure.

So all it takes is a woman to say she is pure or can it be checked on? I suspect there a lot less virgins than actually are those who claim to be. On this side of the world are lots of man sluts is the same true over there? If the woman does't reaveal her past how does anyone know?

Thirty, I hope your family is able to solve this problem to everyone's satisfaction.
