Do any of you folks find that it helps listening to music when one is writing erotic stories?
If so, what sort of music works for what genre?
I've found that an industrial band called Kidneythieves that's been really, really good for science fiction stories.
I listen to a few others, but right now Kt has really got my attention.

So far quiet helps most. If I have music on it has to have no lyrics.

Ah, yes. I find lyrics tend to cause some real strangeness...
Most of the time I listen to music that I've had playing in the background for -ages-.
It gets to a point, where the lyrics don't even seem to be there. The raw elements of the music seem to just sink into me, keeping my brain working and turning new concepts around.
Also really helps to find the motivation, getting into the 'mood' of a story.
If you don't use music, what sort of things do you use to inspire you to write?

I listen to music just about nonstop, not just when I'm writing.

Right now I'm in a classical phase, but that's subject to change at any moment. There's not much music that I don't like.

Good band. But no, can't write to music. Music is for listening to, not to decorate my workspace with.

Ahhh, right.
Guess I'm just strange then.
A few other bands I listen to are VnV nation, plus all the regular like Nightwish etc.
I'll basically listen to it if it inspires emotion

I can't write to music. I need quiet. I tend to jump around and sing along with my metal musics.

I can't get too excited or I have to get myself off, and then I can't write.

I listen to music at work (coding). And like Taharil, I prefer working to music that I already know by heart.

Usually, I write without music, but once in a while I've had Paul Oakenfold's soundtrack to "Swordfish" on. As my writing consists mostly of sex scenes, I prefer something repetitive and throbbing - so Underworld would probably work as well.

I listen to music to get me into a certain mood I try to instill in my work such as dance for a fun mood, something jazzy for a languid sexy mood, and Simply Red for a romantic mood.

Oh yeah. A Motzart Symphoney at 5000 decibles makes the lines sooooo much better.

Writing is both a composition of ideas dabbed down on paper (or word processor) AND a sound. The way a sentence reads and sounds is as important if not more so than the ideas expressed in the words.

For you, maybe, but that doesn't mean everyone works the same way.

Wow, looks like I've opened up a veritable can of worms here...
Anyway, someone up there commented about liking throbbing music. There's a particular song I love for that sort of pulsing, somewhat erotic dancing music, and that's Momentum - VnV nation. I didn't quote him, because I'm not entirely sure how to get that working, and also because it looks a little cluttered to me.
I'll start using it once I've gotten used to the forum.

You haven't started anything, no worries.

We tend to be rather blunt at times here in the AH. Go read one of the political threads. :D
