Mustang Sally says goodbye to Wilson Pickett.

The Wicked Pickett???

I didn't know! Jesus he was good! They really don't make them like that anymore.

There aren't any soul singers like that these days. That melismatic crap that passes for soul singing now is just garbage. I mean, if you can't find the God damned note, just drop it. Don't give me that spastic larynx nonsense.

Ninety-nine and a half just won't do.

Damn. We've lost another musician who mattered.

Edit to add - thought you meant someone else. I am younger - forgive me. :)

Pickett recorded regularly into the mid 1980s and was a 1991 inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That year, his career was revived thanks to the film "The Commitments," which followed an unknown Irish soul band of the same name pursuing its dream of performing with Pickett. The artist also joined the band for performances at the Los Angeles and New York film premieres.

"The Commitments" is a little gem of a movie. Did anyone else here see it? Nice to be remembered that way. 'Soul Legend' isn't bad, either.

Is it too late to become a Soul Legend? I like 'Bitch,' but I think 'Soul Legend' is better.

A true artist and a great loss. Sad that it had to happen, but if it had to happen it should have been in the midnight hour!

Any free kinks to music so we can learn?

Here's one on Amazon

Sample "Land of 1000 Dances", "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love", and "You Keep Me Hangin' On". Those might be the songs you'd recognize, but never heard them sung like this.

Dr. M really said it - There's R&B singers today, but no Soul artists. :(
