I have never read the stories but it seems everyone I talk with likes Harry Potter. Does anyone not like it?

ah i get nothing but harry potter at work too ... theres loads harry potter computer games coming out tommorow :)

to be honest i havent read any of the books but im planning to read one just to see what all the fuss is about ... just about everyone at work is harry potter fans too so i feel excluded :)

me thinks that nasty is the only one here interested in a hairy pooter, but maybe I'm wrong.

Yes, everyone must like Harry Potter. It's a new world law! :p

Actually, I resisted reading the books for a long time. I just read the first three over the summer. I didn't even think about reading them until I started working in a bookstore, where everyone loves Harry Potter. So I read the first one, then I had to read the others! I really enjoy the books!

I have not read the books. I dont plan on reading them. i will not see the movie, not interested. I think just doing so because everyone else is unoriginal, lemmming like in nature. Explains the success of Titanic and the like though.

Of course everyone has to. Didn't you get the memo??

I started reading it last night with my son. You don't have to like it. You don't have to think about it at all. It's a kid's book.

No you don't have to like the Harry Potter books at all. But if you like to read, I'll suggest that you try to give them a read, and then if you don't like it, just put it down.

I never meant to read them either.

I always thought they sounded stupid and they were only meant for young kids (around age 12 or so)But then I lost a bet with my gf monday, I have to read two of her kind of books one being the first harry potter book and the other being one of her fluff books *shudder*. so tuesday morning I started reading the harry potter books, it's now 7:34pm Thursday and I am seriously contemplating breaking into the library uptown to steal the 4th book so I can read it, having finished the first 3 so far. I absolutly love those books!!!! ofcourse I also love Xanth books by Piers Anthony so maybe I'm not as mature as I though hehe

I held out ...... well, for a while I did

I didn't understand all of the fuss about the books until I got really bored and picked up the first one. I laughed until I cried at some of the stuff, course I was mid divorce then so I wasn't totally sane I don't think. I am almost through with the last one and oh yes I will be at the movie. But, just like the rest of like it is all about personal choice.

See, there's a few more on the BB that like it. If you think it's just for kids, think again. Or, just don't read it. I know 2 more peole at work that will be pissed because I'm going to see it tonight.

I hate that the media is trying to make it sound like if I don't read the book or see the movie then something is wrong woth me.

Well, something is wrong with me but that's another story.

I know I've posted this on other threads, but I'll say it again. The books are great if for no other reason than they "hook" kids into reading for the fun of it. Once they learn the joy that comes from books, they hopefully have the reading habit for life.

That said, I think the books are a good read for adults, too. And I'm looking forward to seeing the movie after the initial couple of weeks when it will be just nuts in the theaters.

Not I ....

I am not a fan of this so called Harry Potter and his magical journey into the unknown world of trolls , 3 headed dogs named Fluffy and what not ...

I tried reading the book & it did not spark my interest ... while I was suppose to be reading I was really looking out my window, that is when I noticed my dogs needed baths ... so tucking away Harry Potter I just made my way outside that sunny Sunday afternoon.
The book is now a mystery ... it belonged to a friend of mine and while I apologized for misplacing it she just " shrugged " and did not even think twice about it ... so .. from all this rabbling I can finally conclude ...

No I could give a tiny rat's ass about Harry Potter.:p

I read an article somewhere which quoted the many favorable reviews given to the upcoming movie by major film critics. The article then went on to show how each critic who gave the glowing review works for a company which is owned by the same company as the studio releasing the movie. Personally I think anything that encourages kids to read is a good thing, but the idea of the same corporations owning both the news outlets and the advertised commodities is a little chilling.

Laurel

i fixed this with the double secret probation F5 button...

I haven't read harry Potter, but I'm so burned out on the McDonald's tie-ins...But i'm happy for the writer, she struggled for so many yearz, and then voila! The first book report I enjoyed wuz White Fang in the 7th grade...And then after Frankenstein in the 12th, I never saw reading az a punishment ever again:cool:

AOL Time Warner also owns the upcoming "Lord of the Rings" series. What's the deal with the occult and this monolith?

You know, I felt the same way during the whole Episode 1 thing for Star Wars.

I am not a Harry Potter fan. But as much as you might not like the hype right now get used to it because they are already filming the second one. Just like the Star War series we have to listen to all the hype each time the new one is released. :(
