Musicians who died this year

I don't think I can listen. I also lost three friends this year, all players. I'm not sure one of them played much these days, but the other two did. One was dying of cancer and we spent a good part of last year and the first half of this one working on his musical legacy. Something for his family, for his twin boy to have forever. I was honored to be part of it. He meant a lot to me. I think of them all often.

Everybody dies. Technology lets us hear more musicians, see more performers, so we have more to mourn when they die. And many more die of whom we have not heard, but should have.

The white guy who wrote THRILLER for Michael Jackson died. The guys who wrote the ice-cream truck and Wienermobile music died. Paul Kantner and Signe Andersen, founders of Jefferson Airplane / Starship, died the same day, far apart. A tiny woman who played bass with the Atlanta Symphony since 1945, a 71-year gig, died. The Big Lebowski died (okay, he couldn't sing). Toots Thielemans, the world's greatest harmonica player, died. Keith Richards will die eventually, along with cockroaches and sharks. Don't wait up.
