Okay...so I know how to find out how much my car is worth online in under 5 minutes...and I know that if I had a house, I could figure out it's value...

Anyone know of a site where I can learn the value of my sax?

I have a general idea, but I didn't know if there was some site somewhere that could give me a more accurate estimate.

Whew! For a minute there I thought you said....well, nevermind.

Sorry I don't have any idea either. :D

Actually - just take it to a local music store - they can tell you. It depends on the make and model number and year and a number of other factors.

My sax is currently worth 10 times more than I paid for it in 1976.

The strange and interesting things I learn about you, Lady...

*shakes head*

Yeah, checkout a couple online instrument stores. The Woodwind and the Brasswind has a decent site and they sell both new and used instruments.

But, just so I can gloat, I once bought a Selmer Mark VI Alto for 15 bucks at a yardsale. I swear, with a couple dents in it, and the finish gone in a few spots, it was the sweetest playing horn I've ever known.

:D Oh, Piper... you know I'm full o' surprises...

Raina - my *sex* is priceless. ;) lol

Okay... Music store, I guessed... but I was hoping to not have to haul it anywhere or anything like that. ;) (it's a tenor)

I just never play it anymore...and don't really see myself playing it more in the future... Hmmmm...

I have a similar experience. I bought a Selmer C Melody sax and a antique/junk store many many years ago - for $15. They were going to make it into a lamp!

Ouch! That just makes me all kinds of sad!!

Just saying its a Tenor doesn't mean much. What company? What model? What year?

If you still have it come the Fall, I may just have a buyer. I need a tenor. ;)

It's a Yamaha Intermediate. Looks and plays brand spankin' new... I used it for a few months my senior year (graduation present) and haven't played it very much since then....

Not sure of a year or anything like that...

Yamaha Intermediate (student model?) - Not sure when your senior year was? I'm guessing its not worth much more than it was when it was bought - but still a few hundred dollars.

It may be a student model...I can't recall...

My senior year was... 1998. ;)

We paid $1k for it then.

Its probably worth about the same amount - especially if its still in excellent condition. Good musical instruments tend to not decline in value and, over time, usually go up in value. 1998 wasn't that long ago so I'm guessing its probably not worth much more than you paid for it - but you shouldn't have to take a loss on it either.

Your best bet is going to a local store and having them check it out. Its not something you can really do online - because they can't examine the instrument.

The other thing is, of course, its only worth what the market will bear - in other words, you need a buyer.

Very true.

Thanks for the help, guys! :D
