When I decide to soak for hours in the bath, I like to play a selection of appropriate music. To calm, soothe and generally relax and wind down to. To the accompaniment of a long, cold brandy and coke, a book (at the moment Book 4 of Harry Potter........sorry guys, but I LOVE them.)

My choice of music at the moment:

The Adagio from Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1
'Laschia ch'io pianga' (Handel), sung by Cecila Bartoli
'My Heart Opens to your voice', from Saint-Saens' 'Samson and Delilah'
2nd movement of Beethoven's Piano Concerto, 'The Emperor'
The Agnus Dei from Faure's Requiem
Massenet Meditation by Thais
Debussy - Prelude a L'apres Midi
2nd Movement of Mozart Piano Concerto No2
Theme tune from The Mission by Morricone
'Like an Angel Passing through', by Anne Sofie von Otter (album 'For the Stars', with Elvis Costello)
Vocal version of 'Nimrod', from Elgar's Enigma Variations
Desree, 'Kissing you'.......
...................
and a whole lot more, including Tchaikovsky, Allegir, Rutter, Bach, Lalo, Brahms, Purcell, Mahler, Gounod - a wonderful 2 and 3/4 hours of blissfully relaxing music.

I'm off to soak, zizz and chill.

Night all.

Mat., I love your lists (copy them for future reference when shopping for CDs).

These two send me into myriad states of oblivion.

Perdita

Jeez Mats, I thought I was a bath whore, you go to the symphony to bathe.:)

Pachabell's Cannon by the sea.

The curtains are drawn against the night. The log fire is burning cosily in a brick fireplace. The sofa is pulled up close to the fire, the room is not dark, but glows from the light of the fire and a few candles, sending flickering shadows into the corners of the room, creating a mood of mystery and romance. We have Bach playing in the background, the cd player loaded with our two favourite pieces. For me, the double violin concerto, for you the Brandenburg. Not intrusive, just soft enough to lend ambience to the room.

Opening paragraph from 'Rhapsody'.........by ME !!!!

P., I'm delighted to hear we share a taste in the sublime.

*grinning shamefacedly*, I missed most of my list up until now - 'Moonlight Sonata', I fell asleep !!!!!!

Abs, I've never been called a whore so delightfully before. Thank you !!!!

conversely, now I need to be very unrelaxed.

......and now I'm up, showered and relatively awake, and need to stay that way with chores to do, my taste in music takes a radically different road.

Currently, at a reasonably high volume.....AC/DC live, (thank goodness I live in a substantial house with thick walls, and neighbours not too close), to be followed by Darkness, The Pretenders, and my sons own rock group.

High Energy, envigorating, blood pumping.....love it !!!!
(My boys think I'm a nutcase :D :D :D )

I'm very fond of Beethoven's 6th Symphony - The Pastoral.

His Moonlight Sonata.

Moussorsgky's Pictures at an Exhibition, especially Promenade.

And Bob Marley, the most righteous music of the 20th Century.

chillin' music for me is nearly anything celtic

Heather Dale the Trial of Lancelot
Maggie Sansone Mist and Stone
Al Petteway Midsummer Moon

my own dulcimer music, when im alone.. otherwise i feel pressure to play well.. ugh

i like vivaldi.. i dont know classical music well.. though it is rare that i will come across something that i just cant listen to. wagner is very dark.. depressing to me.. have to be in just the right mood to listen.

I'm a music mood whore... LOL

For relaxing... I have an album called "Deep and Chilled Euphoria", very relaxed trance... sooooothing.

For get up and go party style I have a LOOOONG playlist of various artists... mainly dance I have to admit.

When I'm angry I hit the rock, metal etc. Papa Roach and Linkin Park being faves...

Love The Darkness.
My eldest son gave me their first album for my birthday, and the youngest bought me their t-shirt. I love it.
Get some very strange looks when I wear it out.

Strange mix with silver hair.

Mat ;)
