Music In A Play Scene?

Everyone loves music. To dance to, write to, clean to, drive to, and so on and so forth. But, what is good music to play to?

I suppose it depend on what type of play your into. To stimulate your sense of hearing, can be highly erotic and mood setting. Teleporting you to whatever head space either party wants to be in.
By becoming transfixed from the orchestra of the scene, physical sensations, emotions and the sound of the music resonating, can prove to be a memorable experience one would want to duplicate over and over again.

I have looked online to find out what others have discovered to be good play music, and have been quite disappointed at the results. A lot of what I have found is music that contains a lot of lyrics, or a lot of techno. I love music for its rhythm and what is being said, but find it is difficult to submerge oneself into a scene, when, "Let's play master and servant" is rambling on in one's ears.

I love Depeche Mode, but i don't think its the type of music to set a scene and mood. Techno is great for some scene or part of a scene, but for for the entire play session?

So I thought I would ask here, what type of music do you listen to during a play scene? What mind frame does the music you listen to put you in?

These are some of my favorites,

Enigma- Anything by them

Portished- Machine Gun, Glory Box

Delerium- Soapbox Opera, Silence,

ACHILLEA- Vivir, El Alma Herida, Atacame

Collide- Tempted, Wing of Steel

Deftones- Tempest, You've Seen The Butcher, Change, My Own Summer

In This Moment- Whore, Blood

Nine Inch Nails- Closer, Head Like A Hole, Hurt

30 Seconds T Mars- Hurricane, Stranger In a Strange Land

Classical and Opera's- The flower's Duet, O Fortuna-CarminaBurana, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata , Chopin's Waltz #3 in A Minor, Adagio, and a few others, Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, organ.

They are many more, but these are my favorites. They pull me into a type of "Zen" state. Combining this with a play scene is incredible. Let me hear your thoughts and tastes.

Stravinski's rite of spring, especially the pagan dance portion

Ode to Joy, beethoven's 9th symphony

Beethoven's "Grosse Fugue"

In the love and dynamics of a quiet scene, Leonard Cohen's "Halelujah" (cover done by a friend of mine and his band:)

John Adam's "Shaker Loops" for a weird scene:)

In terms of describing my relationship "For my Lady" by the moody blues

For me, personally, an intense scene with heavy metal music doesn't set the right thing for us, we do intense scenes, but the music makes it flow for us, not drive:)

If there are words, I don't want to hear it, I will be completely distracted.
Some world music works well, because the voices are great but I don't eed to try to understand the language.

I've recently been converted to Dubstep-- who knew?

I don't mind no music at all, sometimes-- I need to hear my partner's little sounds.

It really depends on the scene. I quite often do need music with words to centre myself to give me something to focus on. I am not a pain puppy so I find I can go alot longer if I have decent music. Although I have been known to sing while tied to a cross but only with someone I really trust.

My songs rang from anything by Fleetwood Mac to AC/DC to the Beatles and Iron Maiden,

Recently I have found Dubstep really helpful as well.
Phaeleh's entire Fallen Light album sends me into a space that I can't quite describe or compare.

Very few words and the words that are there are beautifully intoxicating.

I can't have music in a scene.

I'm a ballroom dancer, I get distracted by the music and my focus changes from being present in scene to thinking about dancing.

True story...I was standing against the foot of a four post bed, all spread eagle tied, there was a minuet in the background...I unconsciously started making rise and fall movements and extending my sides to simulate sway.

The Dom, in an amused but irritated tone asks me "Are you dancing while I'm doing this?"

And I was. In my head I was on a dance floor, swirling around, waltzing.

I can be brought back to scene by sharp stingy pain, but seeing as I can sometimes react intensely badly to that kind of pain, it's probably easier to turn the music off and let me come back on my own.

I like music in a scene. And I like no music in a scene. I find good things in either situation when playing. :)

At one point in my musical career, I found a Lady that I loved very much and she freed my muse. Since then I have been writing music like a madwoman :)

Most of it is fairly standard rock with a slightly heavy edge to it and quite vanilla. But every person I've loved in the lifestyle, has had at least one kinky love song written for them. A couple of the people I've loved have had several written for them. :)

And I am definitely a bit of a narcissist, so my favourite music to hear in a scene, (at least when I'm in the submissive role), is the kinky music I've written. :)

I like music, primarily instrumental, for scening much of the time.

I will strongly suggest, however, that one NOT use the theme song of "Mission: Impossible" in scening. It's almost impossible to avoid spanking/flogging/paddling/caning on the hard beats, and once you realize you're doing that, it's almost impossible not to start laughing, which will often throw both PYL and pyl off their "mental rhythm."

Yeah any music by Slayer is something I don't recommend either.

You mean people aren't supposed to laugh during a scene? Now I know where I was going wrong ;)

I had better go and pracice my best just sucked on a lemon serious face :)

I'm going to give everyone a gift. This is one of the best songs to FUCK to:

http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/Electron/3lI6IZ?src=5 - Have it so it plays half way during sex in your "for sex" playlist of music.

I dare anyone to challenge me with a better song. Listen to it while you read my post.

Here is what I've learned works best for me.

1. Music with words is a big no no.
2. The simpler the music the better. You want raw beats and simple, dirty melodies. Electronica works very well. Dubstep is way too advanced for my level of sexual training, it distracts me way too much.
3. Make sure she has 1-3 glasses of wine, that helps remove inhibition and helps her tap into her instincts.
4. You can have one drink tops unless you're good at drunk sex. For me alcohol kills my hard on if i have too much.
5. The music should be loud or don't play it at all. You have to lose yourself and having the music loud is the best and ONLY way IMO.
6. Marijuana is a plus.
7. Lights off, preferably with a strobe light that flickers on at random on top of a black light.
8. Xanax works great if you have it but NEVER MIX IT WITH ALCOHOL, NEVER MIX IT WITH ANYTHING AND NEVER TAKE TOO MUCH. (I'm assuming you have a prescription when I suggest this).

You want to dull your thinking as much as possible and just rely on instinct and that allows you to get into the music while you fuck. Easier said than done of course.

When I first started to listen to music while having sex it just didn't work for me but I eventually applied the above techniques and it worked.

REALLY? I like Opera (La traviata, turandot) but I could never imagine having sex to it.

Opera

All music has its up and downs. It really depends on your mood and play scene. When I say play scene, I am not just referring to the act of, "sex". I am speaking about a very specific BDSM term. If "getting off", is the sole theme that the individuals in a scene are interested in, then its not really a "play scene".

A play scene is about creating a feeling, stimulating the bodies cognisance, and or or provoking a galvanic mental response. The music portion works for some and not others. It varies widely depending on the individuals and the mood that is being set.

Opera, especially dark Opera can be very raw and intense, you don't need to understand what they are saying, but rather feel the passion, desperation, rage, etc. It can be load and powerful.

On a side note unrelated to music, mind altering substances during a "play scene", is a huge no no. One must be in control of their body and mind. I don't recommend more than one. One glass of wine, one beer, shot or mixed whatever it is you drink.

I liked the piece that you out up here.

Dubstep

I never heard them before, but once I read some of the reponces here, I went right to You Tube. Oh my, I really like it. I lve the mixture of electronica and instrumental. The feeling behind this music is passionate, raw and transfixing.
Thank you, its a great find.

Depends on the opera, you may not have exposure to the many different types of opera out there. You take some music from Wagner's Ring cycle, it can make heavy metal music in a scene look like kiddie music *lol* (though, unfortunately, if you have seen Bugs Bunny 'What's Opera Doc" it might make it hard to do it with a straight face). There is modern opera music from people like John Adams and Phillip Glass that can do it as well, their versions of minimalistic music can do it....

The one thing I'll comment on your list is using drugs or alcohol to get the sub 'into the mood' or whatever. Yeah, it relaxes them, looses inhibitions, but it also can be dangerous, depending on the kind of scene, it can also diminish their capacity to let you know they are in distress or realize they are in trouble, and the same thing applies to the dominant, too. I am no puritan or old fart when it comes to drugs and drinking (I don't drink much, and I don't do drugs, haven't for a while), but I agree with Cmay it isn't smart using that going into a scene (obviously, also depends what you are doing, you may get away with it with a light scene, but I still would discourage it). If it is regular sex, that is a different story, but if you are talking scene play (since this is the BD/SM board), then to me it is a no-no.

For me, as a sub, getting into the sub space is part of the beauty of scene play with my dominant, and that journey is important, and that tension, of my mind in some ways resisting, and my dominant using their skill to overcome that, is part of the trip, using alcohol or drugs to me to lessen that resistance seems like taking away part of the fun (then again, I like driving manual transmissions, go figure). It just seems to me that getting to the destination is part of the whole process, a domme friend of mine, who taught me a lot about myself years ago, told me knowing that she had guided and gotten a sub to that special place made it all that hotter for her, and my long term domme has said the same thing:).

One note about music, anything with rhythmic drumming, native american music and similar, can be a great thing. I seem to recall there is a certain frequency of drumming (300 beats/minute maybe I don't recall) where it can induce a kind of trance state, it is why it was used in so many rituals in native spiritual practices, might be worth a try, too.

I find Gregorian chanting hypnotic, mesmerising and you can become entranced by it which is helpful for reaching subspace.
It all depends on the mood, the setting and what is being required of me
