What do you do to relieve muscle pain?

I've tried a heat pad, and it works, but only sometimes. I'm taking anti-inflammatories, but they're making me throw up, as I'm also finishing up unrelated antibiotics. I've spent a good 30 hours laying in bed, trying to make the pain go away, and when I get up to go pee or something, I almost can't make it, the pain is so bad.

It feels like I'm being stabbed in the side. But like, constantly. Now and again, there will be a more painful throb, but the bad pain is always there.

HELP!!!

that doesn't sound very good at all. Maybe you should go to the doctors. I always use ice with muscle pain. WHen i have a bad back. Also, theres a spray in britain called deep heat that is really good. Sorry you not feeling so good

That doesn't sound like "muscle pain." Are yousure that's what it is?

In any case, any pain that persists for more than 24 hours and/or dosn't respond to analgesics merits a visit to the emergency room.

A "stabbing pain in the side" could be apendicitis or a bowel blockage -- either of which can be extremely serious if left untreated.

It's not my appendix, wrong side, and it's not a bowel blockage, trust me. I thought it was a kidney thing (it's side and back), but my doc has ruled that out.
I'm gonna make another appointment for Monday, if I can, but Jebus, this is just excruciating...

what if it's your ovaries?? i haven't had experience with this, but both of my older sisters have had ovarian cysts - not pleasant at ALL, and they also had no clue what it was. the throwing up might not be from your antibiotic either - it could be a symptom of whatever you have (i know it's common w/ ovarian cysts, at least)

I'm con cur ER and Second opinion.

but if it is muscle. Send someone out to the Drug store and get a Carton of Epson Salts and Poor two cups of it in a hot bath. There is nothing physically better then a hot Salt bath for muscle pain. Take it from 40% disable Vet due to back and Knee problems.

P.S. Dont do this alone. i can't count the number of times i've fell asleep.

While extremely rare, it is possible for organs to be transposed... on the opposite side of where they should be. Also, it's possible to be wired in reverse... have organs on one side and feel pain on the other, also extremelyrare.

What you're describing doesn't sound like muscle pain, though it could be. Doctors will often reccomend ice, but it never has helped me. It may be good immediately after the injury to reduce swelling, but beyond that, it's useless. I use heat, and it helps, but beyond that the absolute BEST thing I've had for muscle pain is shiatsu massage. Well, a muscle relaxant, a valium, and a couple of shots of Irish whiskey is great, but hard to come by these days...;)

It's too high up to be my ovaries... stand up and put your hands on your hips. The part covered by your right hand, and a bit above it is where the pain is..

I'm currently being treated for an infected ovary, uterus, and bladder, and maybe this is pain association? Maybe it's related? I don't know. I just want it gone.

My above bath Valium or flexiral and a Long Island on my worst days. but i'm not condoning the mixing of Alchole and meds can have worse results.

I was being facetious.
While I have used that combination for myself for very severe pain, I wouldn't seriously reccomend it to anyone else. Drug and alcohol interactions can kill... or worse.
BTW, if you drink about 11 Long Island iced teas, you don't need the valium or flexiral...;)

P.S.
the point of my initial post was that for true muscle pain, my favorite remedy is massage therapy.

;)

It sounds like the type of pain associated with your bladder infection. I had one a month ago and was in so much pain I could barely walk. There is an over the counter medicine called AZO that helped me so much. I would definitely reccomend getting your hands on it if you can. It will turn your urine a dark orange color that can stain, but I say it's worth it.

How far into the course of antibiotics are you? If its been 3-4 days and yoru still having this kinda pain I'd say a change of antibiotics is in order as well.. they should be kicking in by now.

today was day.. um.. 13 of antibiotics, and my last day. I'm going to call my doc on monday, cus this pain was debilitating, and I've now missed two shifts of work due to it.

Could be bladder, could be ovaries, and check into endomitriosis (i don't think I spelled that right).

I am just finishing a UTI. I was on Cipro (an antibiotic) and the stuff that makes your pee orange. And it stains! My pubic hair is orange!!!! (good reason to shave it all off again, though ;) ).

I digress...

I always recommend Mugwort for muscle pain. It's an herb, and is available in most herb/natural food stores. Steep it in oil to create massage oil, simmer and strain for a tincture for the bath, or drink it as a tea (be careful, it can make you very very stoned).

Sounds like it's probably related to the bladder infection. If that's the case, I'd go easy on pain-killers because they could be making the pain worse instead of better by irritating the kidney and bladder.

Flushing your system by drinking lots of water might do more for the pain in the long run than taking another pain-killer.

If the pain is debilitating, I still think a visit to the ER is your best option -- Especially since you're on prescription medication and the pain could also be a reaction to the meds. You need Professional Medical advice instead of home remedies.

If your thinking it's UTI related then I agree with the pills that make you pee orange. In the states you can get them OTC they are called Uristat. Have made a world of difference for me in the past. Last time I needed them I had a UTI brewing Fri. nite. Got me thru till I could get to the Dr. on Mon. and a few days after that till the antibiotic kicked in.
