Do skin-tight jerseys help performance?

But according to Rick Powers, a sports management expert and professor with the Rotman School of Management, the impact is mostly psychological.

"I don’t know how it is going to improve performance, but it certainly addresses an intimidation factor," said Powers, noting that one of the first teams to wear the technically superior skin-tight gear from Adidas was New Zealand’s ever-intimidating rugby team, the All Backs.

"It accentuates the fitness, body build, strength and power that the athlete possesses. . . Someone like LeBron James — can you imagine him in something like that?”

Some fans will naturally be drawn to the new look.

"From a fan point of view, the female audience is certainly going to be attracted to this," Powers notes. "Look how much they like football pants. You ever see those guys wearing baggy pants?"
...

A lady commentator of Fox Sports Radio scoffed at the bolded assertion, claiming, "...that's more for gay guys than for women. Did you think Playgirl was really for women?"

Comment as you will -- sexism, the morality performance enhancing clothes instead of performance enhancing drugs, or wherever your dirty litle minds want to go.

Women are just as visual these days as men. I mean of course the gay community certainly isn't going to complain but please women look all the time. They can claim that there is more than a man's appearance that attract them and maybe down the line that is true but it certainly isn't a man's "mind" or his "sensitivity" that first catches their eyes.
Women are on the prowl more than ever and us poor men have just been reduced to eye candy just as women have been for years they are simply catching up to us by becoming like us men and going with their baser instincts more often.

 As usual, Fox news doesn't know what the fuck it's talking about, not even in sports. I know plenty of fanatical female basketball fans and they are going to go gah-gah over this.

And frankly, that lady commentator comes across not only as out-of-touch and homophobic (what? Is she really trying to say that women and gay men have nothing in common?), but as a prude. What's she going to tell us next? It's "unlady-like" for a woman to notice a man's body?

And there will be a dubious added benefit to this. The look will come down to the average guy and if he can pull it off, I promise you his lady will appreciate it. Of course, the dubious side to it is that, alas, like so many fashions, this one only flatters the tall and fit. So men less tall and/or fit who wear the jersey won't be flattered by it.

Interesting point on the trickle down effect! I however am 5'8" so will not be buying one. In defense of the girl on Fox we are getting so up in arms as a society about harassment amongst other things that heaven forbid she say the player looked hot in it or any type of sexual remark. Surprised the gay community isn't all over her yet for stereotyping. Hell Tony Cornheiser was suspended recently for making a comment that he loves the outfits one of the girls on (I think espn) was wearing. he had to apologize for saying she was hot which was as far as the comment went.

tell you waht though back to your trickle effect be careful of what you wish for because the average guy has no clue how to dress or has an inflated opinion of his physique. The guy who will wear this will have that big ass beer gut and love handles. See speedo's for an example of this behavior.

Fox Sports Radio is NOT Foxnews.

If you follow the link in the first post, there's a picture of the "techfit" jersey; I don't see anything to "go gaga" over -- I had to read the captions to see which of the two Adidas jerseys was the "muscle hugging" high-tech one.

I don't see that the new jersey -- either the Techfit or the other more conventional jersey -- is going to increase viewership and as the Toronto Star makes fairly plain it isn't really intended to attract more female fans.

Well, you wouldn't, would you. :D

Lovecraft, of course fat out-of-shape men will wear this along with fit in-shape men. Them's the breaks. I think women can manage to live with that. They'll focus on the good stuff.

T-shirts and jeans. I've been dressing that way since I was 10 and won't change. In the summer a tank top will occasionally replace the t-shirt. In the winter I add a spiffy black leather jacket. That is it. I know my limits! I have to say that when i see some of these guys I am embarrassed for them.

My all time fav though is when I'm in the bars for my dart league and some guy with the big beer gut who couldn't find his cock without a gps looks at me and tells me the bartender is cute but would be better if she lost a few pounds.

The guy was wearing a shirt that said "I got there first" I pointed at it and asked if it was referring to a buffet. he didn't get it.

I agree. I'm not a fanatical basketball fan, but I am a fan. Gives us some more "eye candy" while we watch the game.

I wonder if they can make hockey uniforms like that, too? Probably not since the players would likely freeze.

If she does, she must not have ever looked at the cover of most romance novels.

That stands to reason.

Yeah, but look at all the overweight women who think they can pull off wearing a bikini or a halter top with Daisy Dukes. *shudder*

Just as I'm embarrassed for the overweight women I mentioned above who were bikinis or halters or way too tight/small clothing.

Do they think they look good? Do they look in the mirror before they leave the house?

Yeah and hooboy, I saw a guy in a bike shop fully decked out in skintight biking gear. It was not pleasant.

From a players viewpoint I can the not being able to grab the jersey as a plus.
