(Reuters) - Rupert Murdoch is unfit to run a major international company, British lawmakers said on Tuesday, finding him responsible for a culture of illegal phone hacking that has convulsed his News Corporation media empire.

Pulling few punches, the lawmakers listed failings of the 81-year-old News Corp chief, his son James and a company they said had showed "willful blindness" about the scale of hacking that existed at the British News of the World tabloid.

They could have learned that just watching the fair and balanced news:rolleyes:

He's unfit to own a twitter account much less an international news organization.

Lit conservatives used to be all about law and order. I expect to see them become champions of prison reform.

Well, what now? Does he apologize and resign? Doesn't sound like Murdoch. The undertaker will have to pry power out of his fingers.

We can only hope that for the rest of his miserable life he gets a thousand post cards a day reminding him that a British court says he's an incompetent asshole.

I guess this means the BSkyB deal is toast. That's a shame, isn't it?

Now, excuse me, I have to go and bump Ishtard's "it's a media witch hunt" thread.

Yes coming from the liberal branch of the house and interestingly the only competition on the airays to the BBC.

I clicked view post for a laugh. You're a moron. And ignorant. And a moron.

If you made that much money being incompetent then there are a few people in this thread that should be able to pay of the national debt.

and if being a asshole paid, I would not need a job

I'm not sure that I equate someone's net worth with their competence. Several ex-presidents leap to mind offhand.

Being a president and owning/running a billion dollar media enterprise are a little different. You are correct any moron could be president...... off hand look at the current oval office idiot.

You just took most of Romney's qualifications off his resume as a candidate. Now he's going to have to run as the former Mass Gov, and try to find a way to defend ORomnabamaCare without supporting ObamaRomneyCare.

Interesting that he wasn't incompetent while his newspapers were selling millions of copies and no-one knew the stories they were printing were obtained by devious means.
But the moment there's something underhanded about it, he's incompetent.
I wonder if all the people who bought his papers feel somehow 'sullied' by association?
Does the internal revenue office, who profited from all the tax money Newscorp paid on profits from the company, also feel a little dirty?
I'm not defending Murdoch - I think it was despicable what his companies did, and I am absolutely certain Murdoch himself was fully aware of what went on - but to focus solely on Newscorp is a little shortsighted.
You can bet there are more than a few tabloid execs who are holding their breath and thanking their lucky stars it wasn't THEM that got caught out.
And lets not discount the 'great unwashed's' role in all this.... If the public weren't so hungry for trash, these stories wouldn't have made the paper.

Come on man....of all people I would not expect you to pull that fallacy crap.

All good points, here.

I have to wonder if the enquiry intends to move onto other publications, or are they solely focused on Newscorp?
It will be interesting to see what they do when they're finished tearing apart Murdoch.

The commons select committee was specifically interested in phone hacking at News of the Screws. There is a wider investigation going on, http://www.levesoninquiry.org.uk/
