Edgewick University in Boston, Massachusetts is like any other major college -- it has a fair share of student organizations. But one particular group of students experiences a life-altering shift when they join the new Occult Club recently started by Professor John Negan, who is partially based on Negan from the Walking Dead.
Currently a Professor teaching Paranormal Studies and Parapsychology at Edgewick, Negan has previously worked with ghost hunters, demonologists, and paranormal investigators around the world. Recently, over the summer break, he was visiting numerous haunted locales in Mexico, when he came across a small gold demon statue buried beneath a loose floorboard in an old decrepit manor. As soon as his hand touched the cold metal, his mind swarmed with memories of the house in the late 1800s, when it was used as a torture chamber.
Negan tried to put the Idol back, but it later magically appeared in his hotel room. It followed him all the way back to Boston, haunting his dreams with distorted remnants of people shrieking in agony. By the time school started again in the Fall, he was on the edge of madness, but managed to hide it well in front of the students and teachers. He started the Occult Club in the hopes of gathering a team of young minds to help him research the Idol and find a way to break the curse.
For the last two months, Negan has kept the true nature of the Idol and his curse secret from the group. But now it is Halloween, and the students are attending a party at their professor's house. It is early in the night, everyone is listening to music and having a good time and trying to forget about the stresses of life for a while. But then the Idol sends him a new vision...
Compelled by the powerful demonic epiphany, Negan drugs the punch and soon everyone else is unconscious. When they awaken, they are all chained in a circle on the floor in their professor's basement, with a large pentagram drawn with chalk in the middle. The room is lit by dim candles as Negan stands in the center, reading out words from a book in Latin. It is then they realize their professor is bare naked, and so are they -- he stripped them all while they were out. He has an evil gleam in his eye as he reads out in a passionate fervor.
If this wasn't terrifying enough, he then grabs a large plastic container of kerosene and walks around them in a circle, smiling sadistically as he dumps the liquid on each of them. He then returns to the center and dumps some over his own head, after grabbing a lighter from a table. He now has the Idol attached to a chain around his neck and continues reading Latin from the book in one hand while holding the lighter in the other.
The students scream in terror as Negan concludes his chant, closes the book, tosses it on the table, and then lights himself on fire. He screams out in a booming demonic laughter as he walks around them again, placing his flaming hands on each student until they are all wailing in agony. He then returns to the center once more and releases one final sadistic cackle before he slumps to the ground. Soon darkness takes them all.
A few hours later, they awaken to find themselves completely healed. Negan looks around a bit confused and then notices the Idol has been disfigured by the flames. It no longer seems to have the same mystical aura it once held. In actuality, the demonic entity has now transferred from the Idol into Negan and the students. They each hold a shard of it within their soul, and they may try to fight it at first, but eventually they each give in to their inner darkness in a frenzy of sex, drugs, and murder.
To the outside world, they are still the Occult Club. But to each other, they are the Murder Club and forge a close bond over the people they slaughter and torture and rape. Giving in to their lust only strengthens their demon shards, which in turn grants them with supernatural powers.
