Hot bothered and grief stricken was how Grace experienced the birth of her son BJ, Benjamin Jr was born screaming, big, strong and healthy. His father would have been so proud of his son. Grace often thought of the day BJ came into the world with mixed feelings, she would look at her son and never felt so blessed but her heart would then lurch as she realized again she was alone.
BJ had been born during a hot Australian summer and Grace had been working on his nursery determined that her child would be loved and surrounded by love as if the nursery would really matter to a tiny babe. But Grace was also trying to cope the loss of her husband Ben and keeping busy helped, she had lost him to a tragic accident while she was just 4 months pregnant with BJ.....for 2 months she barely ate or moved from her bed, until she realized she didn't have a choice she had to carry on for her child and so she had.
So this hot summers day 4 and a half months later she was up a ladder hanging the last stencils around the nursery, when her water broke. A vet in a small country town Grace had gone with a farm theme...she had started out simple with blues and greens for the grass and the sky but it had soon taken on a life of its own nothing was too good for her unborn baby.
Grace was shocked when her water broke but she had been calm and had simply gotten down from the ladder called her neighbors wife Becca to drive her to the hospital, 7 long exhausting hours later BJ was born and placed on her chest. Grace loved him fiercely she had never felt such an instant overwhelming love in all her life but the love she had for her son was the strongest feeling she had ever felt. She had cried a little when the hormones had taken over and the fear had taken hold, she was scared to be raising her son alone and heart broken that Ben was gone and missing out on the precious gift that BJ was.
Now another 3 months later and Grace had to start taking patients again or she was going to get into debt, but how did she juggle a small baby and a vet practice at the same time. She had tried to take BJ to work with her but it was just not practical or safe for him, so after a week of that she sat down and worked out her budget and her only option was to hire some help. She needed someone to tend to BJ when she had house calls to make and when she was busy in the practice.
Her vet practice was run from a small office, just off the side of the house. The families small farm was just out side of town, It had belonged to her husbands family and had been their home since they had married 6 years ago, Now it belonged to Grace and to BJ.
Grace relaxed back on the couch listening to the baby monitor and trying to work out what she needed, she needed someone to care for BJ while she worked and she needed help around the farm, things were getting out of hand. She wrote up a short advertisement and sent it off to the local news paper......hopefully she will find what she is looking for.
