How do you incorporate and respond to several quotes from two or three different members, and include the "originally posted by (name of poster)" when posting to a thread? I am sure there is a simple solution but so far it has evaded my efforts.

While I'm the last person to solicit such advice (see: wait for Weird Harold's answer), the only thing I've found that works is quoting the first one, copying and pasting it, then hitting the "back" button and doing it again...as many times as necessary.

Now, you may await the correct answer!

When you click on the "quote" button beneath a post, it opens up a Post reply box and displays the post you want to quote with all the formatting tags listed in the appropriate places. If you scroll down past the "submit reply and preview reply" boxes you will find the posts from the rest of the page that you are quoting from. If the thread has more than one page of posts you will be given the option to view all of the posts to the thread in question. If you want to quote a second post you simply find the post you want to quote from and

a) copy and paste the text and the member's name you desire and add all the tags in the appropriate places to duplicate the formatting.

or

b)you copy the text that you want to quote and click on the "quote" tab below the "color" and "font" tabs at the top of the window, paste the text into the box and click "ok". You will have to type in or cut and paste the member's name separately adding all the appropriate tags.

or

c) PM Weird Harold and ask him nicely to come to your house and do it for you.

I hope this is not completely confusing.

I removed critical square brackets from what the quote button added to your post and added color coding to the remainder of the tags.

How you acquire the text to quote is subject to many different methods, but the formatting when you paste it into your post is the same. You can manually type "Originaly posted by..." instead of using the quote button for any any additonal quotes, or you cn copy and paste fromthe orignal preformatted quote and overtype with the correct name.

For complicated posts with multiple quotes, I often open MS Word or a New Mail window in Outlook so I can copy, paste, format, and spellcheck before a final C&P into the text box for my reply.

One of the simplest ways to C&P from several posts, is to use right click/open in a new window on the quote button for each post you want to quote. Then cut and paste from the various windows into the one you plan to click "submit" from. You can then close the other windows without submitting those replies.

Paste the text you want to quote beween the quote tags you've typed into the newreply.php form (see attachment)

You can also add whatever identifying information you want by simply typing it before the text you're quoting -- with or without the "standard" italic attribution and bold font quote.
