The story is The Morrisons by RecHiker. The story thread has been silent since late 2017. It appears that RecHiker has serious health problems. There is a parallel set of stories called A New Life for Dr. Mitchel by Fat-Dad. The two authors were writing in parallel when posting ceased. Fat_Dad has a story line that can go on by itself, and did once, but he seems to have stopped writing. I sent him a note one time but did not receive a reply and neither author is updating his profile with news.
