Mueller must step down to save the Russia probe

Special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into alleged Russian collusion in the 2016 presidential election is one of the most important law enforcement investigations in American history.

But it is also becoming increasingly undermined from within and without, and the best way to save it is with an amputation.

Mueller needs to step down.

That's because over the last few weeks, many questions have arisen about the integrity of his staff and even Mueller himself. Some of those questions are fair and some aren't, but they're enough to forever taint the investigation's conclusions.

He must act with integrity if he wants his recommendations to have any credibility when it's all over, no matter which way he goes.

Why? admittedly several people under him had clear conflicts of interest but they have been removed.

He did act with integrity. As soon as he found out one of the agents involved had significant bias (they all have biases, and at the time of the election, anti-Clinton biases were the ones claimed to be rampant in the FBI) he got the man off the investigation (and, yes, the biases were strong enough that he rightfully was bounced). It's not Mueller's place to tell the public why--that's the Justice Department's responsibility and whether or not even they do is a legal HR matter.

It's all politics to go after Mueller about this now.
