scotus hearing oral arguments in florida v georgia case: florida's arguing georgia's overuse of water is harming florida's oyster industry

Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh posed several questions about the way the Court should evaluate the proposed harm to Florida’s waters against the potential burden on Georgia. Gorsuch noted that the Florida’s remedy might cost Georgia up to $100 million per year during drought years, while Florida’s entire industry is only valued at $6.6 million per year.

“Why doesn’t that preclude or at least pose a problem for you?” Gorsuch demanded of Florida’s lawyer.

reading down through it, there's some funny stuff, including mentions of murder on the orient express and the 'how are expected to rule on this shit' (i paraphrase) when the 2 sides measure the water differently, leaving a 'case of the missing water'.

oh boy

It’s surprising. The majority of oysters are hermaphrodites.

It's difficult to make much sense of that case if it's only considering water flow, not pollution or over fishing. Microplastics and glass fibres were identified as a major contributor to falling population levels in the UK. Because they stressed, the oysters didn't swap sex and breed.

Nestlé sucks — literally — the lifeblood out of Florida’s precious
freshwater springs

Nestlé has rights to take a million gallons a day

Florida board approves permit for Nestle to continue bottling
1 million gallons of spring water a day for just $115

- Jim Turner

Seven Springs applied to draw 984,000 gallons a day from the aquifer
that serves as a source for the Ginnie Springs area and pipe it to the
Nestle plant.

Seven Springs, which is headed by owners of the private Ginnie Springs
Outdoors park along the Santa Fe River, has an expiring 20-year permit
that allows 1.152 million gallons of water a day to be pumped.
