What benefit has MTV given the world? Take away the given-entertainment.
Go back a few years and I can come up with a few.
First: MTV singlehandedly saved the corporate music industry. At the time MTV debuted, Americans wer branching out to other forms of entertainment. Video games, VCR's, and Atari's had cut record sales to all time low's. MTV turned that around pretty fast.
Second: Band-aid, Farm-aid, Live-aid, etc did quite a bit for the downtrodden. Shame they stopped.
Third: Social issue recognition. MTV's Rock The Vote, their constant pursual of discrimination and racism issues, and sexual issues pushed the envelope and got people to thinking and talking.
Can anyone else think of any other benefits MTV has given society.
Oh, and they sure made singers prettier. Look at Neil Young, do you think he would have made it in the post MTV music business?
